Back from Utah... cool stuff to share!

So we are back from Utah and we had a great time. I Went to see a doctor about Hormone therapy for a few issues I am having and I AM SO excited to be starting it. Actually started in on Wednesday, had my first injection.. and can already tell a difference! I will post more about it later, because I am still in the early stages of it, but I swear I have found the miracle hormone for all of my problems! LOL.. including my inability to loose weight! I am a little nervous to post about it here.. because I am a little nervous about what everyone will think about it.. but I can't say enough good things about it. I have told just about every person I meet about it and I have so many friends and family that are thinking about doing it too. There are different kinds.. but something to benefit everyone!  So  I decided after I have been doing it for 2 weeks, I will let you in on what it is.. but today's post is  actually about ACTIONS..

Actions in Photoshop, that is..

Maggie Holmes, a dear friend who was a guest artist on the Scarlet Lime a few months back.. is not only a completely talented scrapbooking (she designs and contributes for Creating Keepsakes magazine).. but she is also an amazing photographer. She has such an eye for taking wonderful pictures, but she has  also created some awesome formulas for adding finishing touches to your photos, to make them just POP! She turned these formulas into Actions you can install in your Photoshop programs.. and they ROCK!

She sent me two sets of her Actions a couple of weeks ago, and I have had sometime over the last few weeks to play with them. I wanted to show you how amazing they are. If you aren't familiar with Actions, basically what you do with them, is once you purchase them, you simply install them into your Photoshop program. SO simple really, but then when you have a photo you want to fix in a hurry , you simply click the play bottom in your Actions window,  and away it goes, making your picture perfect! .

So here is what I did.. Maggiescoloractionsthe first picture is of one I took of Allie at Easter. I used the lighten and color pop actions on this photo. You can see the before and after. AMAZING.. love how everything just pops..

The second picture (of my dear friend Shelby's baby girl).. I used the extreme color action on .. love how Babycolorpopit makes her face so bright!

So then the next two pictures of using some of her vintage actions, mixed in with her color actions. Vintagebabypop_2  The first is using her vintage basic followed by color pop. The second picture, is using her vintage warm action, Vintagewarmextreme  then followed by extreme color. So cool all the different combinations you can come up with!

Maggie has them for sale on her blog.. so you have to check them out! Thanks Maggie for letting me play with them!

Speaking of blogs.. I wast just on Making  Memories blog the other day and read that they launched a brand new website, so of course I had to go check it out and it is SO cool! So many great ideas now, with actual instructions, shopping, blogging and more.. just thought you might want to know :)..

well that is it for me for tonight. Getting ready for a big stamp/kit sale for Scarlet Lime next week and my SIL, Brooke, is coming over tomorrow to help put together some custom kits for the sale.  She is hosting the sale on her etsy site, on the 22nd. Then tomorrow night we are going to a play that my son Parker is in! The Wizard of Oz!  He is "woody" the tree and he does a GREAT job! My mom is coming down from Utah to go and so is my dad and step mom.. going to be lots of fun!  GO Parker!

Have a wonderful night!

Happy Birthday to my best friend :)

I just wanted to wish Ben a HAPPY 37th birthday! He certainly doesn't look 37.. that's for sure! LOL

He is not only my best friend, Img_1260_2 but a wonderful husband and father and i know my kids all truly appreciate all he does for us.  I know I have said these before, but he is amazing. He can do anything.. I mean it! If it's broke, he can fix it.. if it needs to be built, he can build it, if you have a question about something.. I swear he Always has the answers to it.. even really weird stuff. He is just one of the smartest guys I know. I can't image my life with anyone else. I love spending time with him.. love talking with him, I love just snuggling with him. I couldn't have asked for a better friend or husband.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN! WE LOVE YOU!!

I will be back later this week to update you on our family spring break vacation.. what a blast we had just hanging out with family and friends...

more to come :)

Happy Birthday "Nova" :)

Our "baby" our youngest son, turns 3 today! EEK! I can't believe it.. he has just started really making fun conversation, "big kid" talk in the last few months. I mean like having opinions, talking about funny things, repeating stuff people say, for his answers (which aren't always nice when you have 5 older brothers and a sister to repeat). Noah3

HE is our BUBBIES.. our "NOVA".. .. our chubby luvs (though I do realize we need to stop calling him chubby luvs, or he will get a complex).

His real name is actually Noah, but we have called him Nova, since he was like 4 months old.  Funny story about that and since it's his birthday, why not write about it and document it. I had just gone to CHA with Chatterbox and they needed me to fly straight from CHA to CKU in Florida, to represent Chatterbox and teach. (CKU is an event Creating Keepsakes holds for scrapbooking) and being the great company that CBX was, they also flew Ben out with my little baby, Noah.. so I didn't have to be away from him very long (I had already missed him for like 4 days at CHA).. so I met up with Ben in Orlando airport (i was coming from Chicago, and Ben from Boise).. and when he got off the plane, this cute couple from Korea, came up to us (actually up to Ben) and just nodded and smiled, and cooed at  Noah.. and then went on their way. SO then Ben had to tell me the story about his plane ride. He said he had sat by the couple on the ride over from Denver, and the couple where newlyweds from Korea and on their way to Disney-WORLD for their honeymoon. They got to talking (the didn't speak much English, but did a little).. and asked what the our baby's name was. Ben told them it was "Noah" and then husband said"  OH how cute! Nova! Nova, your so cute nova! your so cute!" and then through the rest of the trip they just called him "Nova , cute nova, your so cute! In his cute Korean accent.

When Ben told me that story I thought it was SOO cute! LOL, so then I started saying it and calling him that.

SO then we headed to CKU, and Ben came to my classes and brought little "nova" with me, and sat in the back, but everyone would ask, how old Noah was and his name.. so then Ben would say "nova" and we would tell the story of the couple on the plane!  So then we just started calling him nova.. and we would always say to him.. oh.. your so cute nova, your so cute! Then my kids started calling him that and saying the phrase to him and so did my family and Ben's family and so now we just call him "Nova". IN-fact he calls himself that. If you ask him what his name is, he will tell you it's Nova, and if you correct him and say Noah.. he says.. NO! Not Noah, NOVA!!!.. so funny..

We don't tell everyone the story now, but I think alot of people think he real name is Nova and that we named him after a car or something! LOL.. but we didn't.. we nicknamed him after a cute Korean newlywed couple on their way to their honeymoon.. what a fun story to tell him when he gets older.

Anyhow.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOVA!! we love you!  We will celebrate tomlinson style.. as usual, with cake, ice cream and family.. He loves books and he loves games.. but not really to "play", he likes to make up his own games with game pieces (like he loves Othello, risk, up-words, etc).. but since he looses pieces here and there when he plays the games, we starting going to second hand stores like DI and Salvation Army and picking up used games that may or may not be missing pieces.. for a couple of bucks, that are "Nova" games. He loves it! So that is what we got him for his Birthday.. some good used games from DI and some books.. oh and a Diego Bike for summer.. such an easy kid to please!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!
Hugs!

update!

Just wanted to send a quick update that my sisters website www.helppaymyway.com that I mentioned in an earlier post, was down for maintenance this past weekend.. so if you got on and couldn't see all the products, that's why! BUT.. it's back up and running! So make sure to check it out :)

Did I also tell you I started exercising again and back on a TRUE low calorie HEALTHY diet? (normally my low calorie diets consist of cold cereal.. lots of it! not good).. but this time.. trying to do it the healthy way, with lots of veggies, fruits, protein, and the right carbs.  I also went walking yesterday with my good friend Kara.  She warmed me ahead of time that she liked to walk "fast".. like speed walk..and I thought.. no problem, I can handle that.  Except I forgot the fact that I am 5' 2" tall and she is like 5' 10" tall!!   I swear I took like 5 steps for everyone one of hers! LOL.. We walked for about 30 minutes and there were times I thought I was going to pass out because my little legs couldn't keep up with her! LOL.. I just kept thinking.. (she must think I am so slow!!!LOL).. when really there were times I had to run to keep up with her. Keep in mind she is ALL legs too.. and my lack OF legs, didn't help the situation any..

When we got done.. she was like.. okay.. same time tomorrow? I just kinda looked at her and winced.. okay...   SOO looking forward to getting my behind kicked again today! LOL

But love her for making me do it.

On another note.. DON'T EVER attempt to wash the actual CUSHIONS on your couch. We usually just take the covers off our cushions to wash them.. but I got into this germaphobic mood last Thursday night and freaked out because one of my youngest, who is just getting potty trained, had an accident on the couch. SO i decided I was going to put the cushions in the bathtub one at a time (without the covers on) and wash them with fabric soap, hot water and alot of scrubbing.. well we have one of those couches they have like the 18" thick cushions and THEN another layer of batting around the outside. What a mistake! LOL.. that foam was so dense, it just sucked that water up right away. Almost so heavy I had a hard time getting them out of the tub even AFTER i tried to squeeze the water out of them. So then Ben tried.. and the water just wouldn't come out. So he took the cushions outside (keep in mind it's below freezing here and snow and ice still on our driveway and ground).. anyhow.. he wrapped the cushions in something, then one by one, place a cushion between two boards (as big as the cushions) then he ran over the cushion back and forth with our Excursion (it's bigger and heavier than a suburban).. That seemed to work.. but didn't get it all out. SO here it is.. 5 days later? and most of our cushions are STILL wet.. we have had fans on them straight (you know the big ones huge square ones).. and also had them each sitting over one of our heating vents throughout our house.. since Friday morning.. and they still aren't dry! LOL.. and it's NOT fun sitting on a couches without cushions.. the springs just aren't that soft.. and since we don't have a family room in this house.. this is the ONLY room in the house for our family to gather. Anyhow.. just had to share. wish I had taken pictures of Ben running over them with his SUV.. that was pretty funny.

So that's my story for today.. Sunday I didn't get any scrapbooking done. I slept and then made meatloaf for dinner. Then we hung out with our kids and watched this great show on BYU TV. It had John Bytheway, giving a talk to the youth about standing tall. It was pretty good! and funny.. he's a funny guy. We went on a cruise a few years ago, with him on it as the special speaker.. it was great.

Anyhow. have a wonderful Tuesday!

Cool stuff...

Soo.. this week and last week has been crazy.. we went out of town last weekend to my friend Liz's baby blessing (oh my goodness her baby is so beautiful!!).... and also watch our Shelley High school basketball team play in the state BB tournament.. which happened to be in the same city as the blessing! So it was great.. it was a fast trip and we spent most of it with family and at the games.. but it was still nice. IT was so much warmer in Boise than where we live.. so I was in heaven! LOL..

THE ONLY person I didn't get to see while I was there... was my friend Jenn Jacobs! (I know you are reading this and thinking.. WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME!!).. I swear I had plans too.. I was going to surprise you and show up at your new house.. but it seems like we spent the whole weekend at games and with Ben's family, so I didn't get a chance.. BUT I LOVE YOU!! and miss you :). We are coming back in a few weeks for Spring break.. so i will make sure we catch up then..don't hate me..:) :) :)...

SO then we got back and had a millions things to catch up on for Scarlet Lime.. BUT my goal, is to update my blog every Sunday. That is my new goal. It's our day of "rest" and a day for us to relax with our kids at home.. go to church, visit family, take naps.. those types of things.. and then I thought, it's also the perfect day to update my personal blog, to let my family know how life is going. So that is my NEW goal. ALSO to do some sort of scrapbooking related project, whether it's writing in my journal, sorting through old pictures and putting them into albums.. or doing a page. But getting on the road to getting my life and my kid's life, documented.

Okay.. but NOW, onto the cool thing I have  to share something with you.. I it's this COOL NEW Site for kids, teenagers, young adults.. it's kinda like an etsy or a ebay.. but it's a place for young people or i guess not just kids.. but adults too.. to sell stuff.. homemade stuff, new stuff, old stuff. etc.. to earn money for college!

My sister and her daughter.. came up with this idea about 8 or so months ago.. My sister's daughter is 13 and she wants to be a doctor or a scientist and they were talking about how that is going to cost alot of money and she better start saving now! but since she is only 13, how does she earn money?

SO they started thinking.. why not create a website.. where she.. and other kids, adults, whatever.. like her, can sell stuff they have or make, to earn money for college. So they DID! it took them a few months to get it built.. but it's been up and running now for a few months.. and NOW all it needs is PEOPLE! Kids, teenagers, young adults, old adults (like me! LOL).. to list their stuff they want to sell.. so OTHER people.. like me, you, anyone.. can come buy it, to not only have something fabulous.. BUT also help others earn money for college and their future.

So.. if you think this sounds fun.. something you could get your kids involved in.. or even just something for yourself.. you HAVE to check it out.. it's a great concept and a GREAT way to encourage our kids to earn their own way for their future.  My kids are working on making some things that THEY want to post and sell on the website.  My sister was giving us some ideas.. things from handmade jewelry (for adults and other kids), to hand drawn pictures, painting, craft things they make..  BUT also just stuff.. for instance,  my son, wants to sell all of his Pokemon cards.. or some of his star wars Lego's.. stuff he is outgrowing, but would like to sell, to be able to save money for when he goes onto school or a mission.  There really is a limit on what you CAN sell, the idea is though for kids and young adults, to have a place where they can earn money, to help save for their future.

the website is called www.helppaymyway.com

So.. watch for some of the tomlinson's kids stuff coming soon.. and I can't WAIT to see what you and your kids come up with! Seriously.. encourage your teenagers and young kids to get involved :)..

anyhow.. just had to share those things with you. I wanted to tell my family.. Braden is NOW taller than me.. by a couple of inches!! he is ONLY 12 and he is taller than me! We were standing by each other last night, doing dishes and I could see our reflection in the kitchen window.. and I freaked out because he was taller than me! LOL.. now i am just waiting for his voice to change. Another big thing happening in our family? Noah is OFF The sippy cup and official in his OWN BED! We are finally almost out of the Baby stage in our house.. we have had babies for the last 12 years.. and I am almost sad that the time is almost over.. and I have to wait for GRANDCHILDREN until I get to have that time again.. that is kinda sad! LOL..

I told Ben today.. that my DREAM job.. when my kids are all gone, would be to be a nurse for Labor and Delivery.. but since I am not good with blood and stuff.. I would only work in the nursery, feeding, bathing.. holding the babies! LOL.. oh.. my dream job.. LOVE newborns.. love em.. I don't know how many times I have offered to watch newborns of my friends, while they took a much needed weekend getaway with their hubbies.. and I swear they always think I am kidding.. so they never take me up on the offer.. I Promise.. I would LOVE It :). anyhow..

better go.. gotta get dinner going..

make sure you check out the website though!

IT ROCKS!

February 22, 2008

it's been so long...

I know, I am a terrible blogger! I get so frustrated with myself because I did this blog so my family can keep up on what's going on in my life and it's sad when they call and have to ask if everything is okay because I haven't updated  it! LOL..

well, so CHA was amazing.. even better because Ben was with me. I swear, he makes the best business partner and I am always so excited to have him around. I can't think of anyone.. ANYONE else, that I would rather spend time with. Is that weird? Although I do love spending time with friends and family.. but sorry.. if I had to choose.. it would be him! LOL..

Ben's sister, Jenni, stayed with our kids while we were gone to CHA and I could KISS her a million times over, for the organization she brings each time she comes. She straighted  and organized all the cupboards, cleaned and organized closets and drawers.. and even POTTY trained our little "Nova" while we were gone. We no longer have a child in diapers and we have had a child in diapers since 1996!!! Can you believe it? That is almost 12 years of diapers straight! We had a few years where we had 3 kids in diapers.. holy cow.. it feels good to be DONE! Thanks Jenni.. we just want to know when you are going to move closer, so we can spend more time with you and YOUR family! Did I mention she also high-lighted my hair the night she got here? She ROCKS!

Oh.. so much is always going but after attending CHA and seeing all the wonderful products out there, and seeing all the cool projects that were made for displays.. it makes you want to go home and create. To document your life. I also got to meet up with some old friends in the industry, who always inspire me as well. It was good to see everyone.

I keep forgetting to mention this on the blog, only because I think I forget sometimes myself.. but CHA was also a bitter sweet time... because in November, I stepped down as a contributing Editor for Scrapbooks Etc, BHG magazine. So it was sad to be at the show and not representing BHG.. but on the sweet side.. I got to go as "Scarlet Lime" and have my own CHA member account!

But.. because we work so far in advance with the magazine issues,  my regular column, "Gadget Girls", will be in there until May.. I think.. so I was kinda waiting until that issue.. to say anything.. but then I thought.. well I might as well let you all know now. Anyhow.. I LOVE those gals.. love them to death (and I should say guys).. I have worked with them for years now, before even being a contributing editor. I worked with them while I was the PR and Marketing Director with Chatterbox and got to know those BHG gals and guys so well. What amazing people. Truly. I will miss working with them!

So why? you are probably wondering.. well I resigned because I felt so overwhelmed with life.

Since the start of Scarlet Lime back in September of 07, it has just grown.. so much more than I expected.. I also realized about Mid October that I just couldn't do it all and still be the mom and wife I wanted to be... so I decided to lighten my load. It was so hard because I really do miss working on articles and with such great people, getting inspiration from them  and being apart of something so helpful to the Scrapbooking industry.. but it was a good change for me and my family.

and.. as many of you know, Ben owns his own business, doing remodeling jobs as well as building houses. But we soon found out that it takes BOTH of us to run the Scarlet Lime too, so in January, he put his business on hold, to become the "do it all" guy of Scarlet Lime. He is the one who packs, kits, ships, inventories, keeps tracks of what's coming in and what's going out.. both on the product side and money side. HE is amazing! I could NOT do this without him. Once again.. he is putting his goals and dreams on hold.. to help me pursue mine. We have been so blessed by the growth of Scarlet Lime and to be honest, we both really enjoy it. I think what we enjoy most is working together. We have worked together almost our entire married life, except for the few years at Chatterbox, and I love it so much. I love having him home every day to just have someone to talk too. He actually understands the scrapbooking community so well, because of the time I have spent in the industry, and him being able to work at shows in the past with Chatterbox. So he is a great partner and he loves being home too. We are truly blessed and have a wonderful support system going.

Anyhow.. just thought I would share that with you all, so you know what's going on with us.

Anyhow, back to scrapbooking.. I really want to get better at documenting my life and my kids life. Even if it's in journals and photo albums. I have about 15 photo albums, meant for 4x6 photos.. that have...and NOTHING in them.. and about 10,000 PLUS pictures on my hard drive and DVD's that have never been printed out.. and that's just from 2003!! Yikes! I need to get those pictures printed and in books, so my kids can see them. I need to document the stories behind them as well, before I FORGET.  It IS important and I need to remind myself of that.

Well hopefully it won't be 2 weeks before I post again! I hope to post again in a few days.. maybe with some good news on my progress of documenting our life.

(this blog is just the first part of that.. actually)..

have a wonderful weekend!

hugs!
Christy

catching up.. CHA and more..

it's time for CHA and Ben and I are off to attend the CHAW 2008 show. To view all of the products manufactures have in store, so we can purchase them for our kit club.

We are excited to see all the new stuff and to have some alone time (I never complain about that! LOL).  Sorry I have been MIA again.. it was crunch time for Scarlet Lime, plus getting ready for 2 months of kits in advance, so we could be prepared to go and "buy" what we need at CHA.. has been crazy around here! Plus kids stuff like BB games as usual, keeps us busy too.

Saturday we watched the funeral of President Gordon B. Hinkley. Thanks Donna for sending me this link. I enjoyed watching it, though it made me cry.  I was a mess all day Saturday.. as I truly loved our Prophet of the  church. I couldn't stop crying all day long.. I know he is in a much better place, with his wife.. but it's sad to have him gone.  He was a rock for me and my testimony during the last 15 years and I will miss hearing his sweet voice and gentle words. There were so many times his simply kind words pulled me through difficult times in my life. He will always be a huge inspiration to me. Just wanted to pay tribute to him and what a wonderful person he was.

I  also wanted to post on here really quick about a really COOL benefit going on for a daughter of a fellow scrapbooker in the UK. You can read more about her story below, but I hope we all can pitch in a bit. I know a little will go a LONG way and it's for a GREAT cause!

Simply Click on this link to learn about how you can help!

hope you all have a wonderful week,.. I will take lots of pictures!

Hugs!

Good things...

I just had to post about a couple of good things..

Yesterday we had the opportunity as a family, to go to the Rexburg Temple Open house. Rexburg_lds_mormon_temple If you haven't been, and you live in the Idaho falls or even surrounding area's, you have to go! It's so beautiful and it's the only opportunity for non-members and even members without a recommend to see the inside of the temple, see the sealing rooms, the rooms where we do baptisms, etc. Once the temple is dedicated (which will be on the 3rd of February), then it is no longer open to the public, only to members with recommends.. SO.. if have have ever wanted to see or were curious.. now is a good time! and it's a wonderful opportunity for kids.  I believe Saturday is the last day.. but it's worth the drive. It was Parker's birthday yesterday.. and so we did that for his birthday, but then on the way home, we were going to head to Leo's place in Idaho Falls (it's kinda like chucky cheese's).. and celebrate his birthday there.  My sister called me with another "good" thing on our way to the temple.. and told me about a huge sale that Old Navy was having! Their clearance items, which were already marked down 75%, where another 50% off the lowest marked price. So after Leo's, I managed to head to Old Navy Old_navy_logo_2 after all of the fun and got SOOO Many great things for my kids for school next year. (I know.. it's a long time away to think about school for NEXT year..but when you have 6 kids.. this is how we buy our school clothes! LOL)..

Last year I was able to get all of Allie's school clothes for about $70.00.. that included 20 shirts and at least 10 pairs of pants.. they were all about 1.00-3.00 each. Well I did just the same last night.. and got all of Allie's school clothes again for next year, PLUS shirts for Braden and Parker and a ton of clothes for Noah. So go check it out! I am not sure if the sale is Nation Wide.. or just in Idaho Falls, but they said it was actually going on last weekend, and they extended it through this weekend.. that's why I am not sure if it's still going on everywhere else!  But I got alot of shirts for Allie for $1.75, pants for $3.50-$4.00 and shirts for my boys for $2.00 and sweatshirts for $5.00. I also got Allie a really nice coat for under $10.00! They have these great sweat type pants (more like track pants, but make out of sweat material).. for little boys, that were only $2.00 each and great shirts for little boys for $2.00 too (perfect for Noah for everyday where).

So check it out.. seriously.. saves you ton of money for buying school next for the next year.

Another good thing I i had to share, I also found in Idaho falls, is Hot Chocolate.. I enjoy good hot chocolate and when we went on the Alaskan Cruise about 2 years ago, for Ben's parents 50th wedding anniversary.. I discovered the cruise lines, have the BEST hot chocolate in the world! They only serve it in the "fancy" dining rooms.. but oh my goodness I loved it. Caramel20hot20chocolate I thought it was only on that cruise.. but I discovered  on our last cruise, last week.. which was a completely different cruise line, they actually had the same food and that same hot chocolate! I had it every night for dinner.. oh yum! Well last month, I was heading to my sister's house, with another sister.. it was right before Christmas.. and we stopped at the Chevron on Hitt road and SunnySide in Idaho Falls (the one by Kohl's and the Movie Theaters).. to get something to drink, and it was so cold out, so hot chocolate sounded good. You want to talk about GOOD.. holy cow that is THE Best i have ever had.. even better than the cruise lines.. and they have this fun little hot chocolate "center" where you can put all sorts of flavoring into your hot chocolate like vanilla, or peppermint or what ever.. and also these tiny little marshmallows or chocolate chips.. or sprinkles.. or whip cream.. oh my goodness... I was in heaven! and it was all included in the price of the hot chocolate!  So after that.. I kinda just assumed that all Chevron stations were the same.. but sadly no.. i have been to alot of the other ones over the past few weeks here in Idaho Falls and nope.. not the same.. even stopped at a couple on the way to Utah.. and not the same.. So if you live in Idaho falls and you want some GREAT hot chocolate.. go visit that Chevron.. YUM!

on last good thing I have to talk about our my two oldest boys.. I have to wish a quick Happy Birthday to Bradenplay_3Braden and Parker!  Braden turns 12 today (we are having a "bowling/Rockband" party).. and Parker turned 11Parker2bw yesterday! What a wonderful duo they are. They truly are two of the best things in my life! Love em both so much.. happy birthday boys! I LOVE YOU!

hope you all have a wonderful day!
Hugs!
