okay.. so i have to admit.. I don't do a ton of digital art per say.. but I DO use a lot of digital elements IN my art.. specially when I paint for my agent. I will paint a piece and then scan it in and then add to it digitally even more with digital elements I have created. Like for istance I have stamped different textures on white paper and even doodled on white paper.. then I scan it in, bring it into photoshop and then pick apart those elements and save them as different png files to use later on my art. I can easily just drag them onto a scanned image and it looks just like if I had stamped on it in real life. I do it this way sometimes because I am not sure if my piece is too heave with texture or not enough? So once it's scanned in.. I can see really what it looks like and then from there if I need to add I can. Or change a color or something. I can. I really do love the digital side of art for that purpose.. however I KNOW i would never fully convert to digital because I Just LOVED the feeling and messy.. get your hands dirty that comes from art! lol
Here is an example of what I mean..
This is a piece of art I created for my agent.
I just did a simple quilt background and then I scanned it in.. and this is what I added digitally
I changed the paper in the upper right hand corner (to one of my own), I added the words and strips of papers behind them (that I also created digitally).. I added some doodles that I did by hand and then scanned in, I added texture like paints bubble wrap, grid, and chicken wire painted and stamped images (all of which I did in my art studio with real paint, etc.. scanned it in and made digital elements out of it). You might wonder why I didn't just do it all initially right onto the canvas.. but alot of time.. specially with licensing.. the people that want my art.. also want minor changes to it. Like they need a different word, or they need it to less busy.. or more busy.. or they need the words to be in different colors. This way I can easily change that without having to create a brand new piece of art. Kinda fun actually. Now as far as ME personnaly being able to use it later.. I could print it off onto paper and then mod podge it onto wood, canvas or even just print it out on matte photo paper as a print to put into a frame. So even though it's not a dimensional piece of art.. I can still use it!
I am not an expert at all when it comes to digital elements, creating my own, using them, etc. EVERYTHING I have learned in photoshop has been by trial and error. If there is a technique I want to learn.. I google it and see if i can find a youtube video on how to do it. And usually there is.
but I was thinking maybe this is the year I really take a class from a professional! lol
so.. Today's class I am really excited about taking is a digital art journaling class by Jessica Sprague.
which starts THIS coming MONDAY!
If you have heard that name before from me.. it's because she was on my design team for Chatterbox.. many many years ago.. and she is the one who gave me the quote "she had three hearts" and told me I should base my class i was developing around it. Jessica has now moved into the digital art world.. actually she does hybrid.. she creates digitally and then prints it out and then adds other art elements to it from her studio. It's basically what I do, but opposite! lol
Anyhow.. She has a new art journaling class starting and I am actualy excited to take it because I think.. actually I KNOW that the techniques she will teach in this class will be able to help me with my digital techniques that I use for my art. I also can't wait to see how texture translates in this way. It's just fasicating to me and different. This year I am all about trying new things and expanding my knowledge of art.. no matter what the form is!
So this is a class I think would be good for me to take.. even just for the experience it will give me. Plus it comes with over 2004 pieces of digital elements to use!! seriously holy cow.. that's a lot!
AND guess what.. of course.. jessica was so awesome to let me giveaway a spot into this class.. so some lucky person will get to join me in this workshop! wahoo! So just leave your comment below on the post and tomorrow.. the last day of this week of workshops.. I will post the winner!
AND speaking of winners.. I have 3 winners to give spots into for my newest upcoming class with Junelle Jacobson!
The art of Wild Abandonment!
The winners to this class are..

congrats girl! email me and I will get you registered for the class!
Well today I am heading to Utah (I know.. seriously do I ever stop to just be home?) I have a work meeting and then am spending time with three of my closest friends Margie, Jamie and Chrissy. I can't wait! Today I AM ALSO shooting my video for the new show.. the Ultimate Craft throwdown! Judy and I talked on the phone this week and they have moved me to phase two of the application process! Which means I have to submit a video of myself and who I would bring as my assistant.. and show them craft pieces I have made. They do it so they can also see my personality and if I would work good on the show.. so wish me luck! lol.. the problem is.. I am always so goofy on film.. I hope that doesn't bother them! lol
well anyhow.. hope you have a wonderful day. do something for yourself today.
happy Thursday!

Good luck on shooting your video, and you'd be awesome on the Ultimate Craft throwdown...
I love the idea of digital journaling - thanks so much for the great art course suggestions!

I would love to earn the spot in the digital art journaling class. Have a great trip and fun with your friends. I admire all of you ladies so much.

Oh, my goodness, Oh, my goodness!! {Just like Annie said in the movie!!} I am soooo excited!! I was reading along and so excited about Jessica's class you are telling us about and then, see my name!! What a treat to my day!! Thank you so much...will pop over and say "hi and thank you" to Junelle, too!!
Jessica's class sounds like another one I will love, too ~ I started teaching myself Photoshop several years ago and love all the things I have taught myself...often by trial and error and lots of Googling just like you mentioned. A graphic designer once told me that I could work on PS everyday and still not learn it all...so true...always something new to figure out and what fun to learn some of Jessica's favorite techniques. Christy, you are rockin' my world this week...great start to 2012!!!

Okay, I an SCARRRED to death of trying to do anything digital, but that is probably because nobody has ever shown me how to ;.) It has always seemed like a fun thing to do, but is a scarrrry prospect when you are clueless! Maybe this is a class that would give me a boost in that direction, don't ya think?!? Broadening my horizons to the digital world could be goal for the new year! Thanks for this opportunity Christy ;.)

Digital journaling class sounds very interesting and would probably take me out of my 'safe zone', which in itself is not a bad thing.
