well hello lovely friends! Hope your week last week was productive and wonderful!
last week, Ben and I had the opportunity to attend another art retreat together! This past June we had made plans to attend the Sugar & Spice retreat in Port Townsend.. together for our 19th anniversary. However because of family things, we weren't able to attend. Usually for us, when things just don't work out like that.. we just think.. oh we will get to it next year lol. But I was determined to go on another retreat with him this year. I had SO much fun with him, watching him be introduced into the mixed media world, at Jesse Reno's retreat in December.. I really wanted him to take another class from different types of artist as well! The Roots & Wings Retreat was less than 3 hours from our home.. an easy drive for us.. plus a dear sweet friend had offered a place for us to stay, AND there would be four different teachers he would be exposed to, during the week.. I just thought it would be perfect!
(just look at the goodness from the retreat.. how could he NOT be affective in a positive way? ;)
um.. of course.. I kinda have a girl crush on Misty Mawn.. and she was going to be there, and I have never met her and I could NOT pass up on the opportunity to take a live class from her.. specially when it was so close to home! So yea I pretty much said.. hey guess what. this is what we are doing the weekend of August 9th. lol. and ben was like.. um.. okay??
So last week we headed off to Utah, to attend this awesome retreat AND on our way out of town, we stopped at Great Clips for Ben to get a quick hair cut. He shaved his beard (enter sad face.. i loved his beard). And he wanted a new haircut to go with it. So we stopped at Great Clips for a cut. Well... while we were there, Ben.. somehow talked me into getting a haircut too, and not just a trim.. but a FULL on cut! lol. He thought I would look so "sexy" with an A-line hair cut.. so I said.. okay. sure. I was trying to grow it out, AND the one thing I loved about my hair being long, was that I could pull it up in a messy bun on top of my head everyday (like this picture here)..
and only had to wash it once or twice a week. It was SUPER fast, and super easy to do each day. BUT after talking to ben a bit.. I decided to just go for it. Why not? it grows back right? and I can't hide behind a messy bun forever. lol.
Soo.. this was me moments before (minus makeup, and my hair just pulled out of my messy bun).
Can you tell how nervous I am? lol
this is a picture of me how I normally do my hair.. curled. which again.. was only once or twice a week.
and this was me after..
(granted I curled it into a wave with a curling iron.. my hair is normally straight)
MY hair is SOO Short now!! lol. I admit, I kinda had a shock period. it pretty much lasted the entire week of of the retreat lol. I would walk past a mirror or i would go to pull my hair back and it was gone! lol. I did try and get creative while I was at the retreat and tried wearing it several different ways
this was it straight
This night (Margie came to visit again for a special "treat" Lorraine had for us.. more on Wednesday), but I decided to go all out and just try and curl the entire thing in my "beach" look, I used to do with my long hair. Wasn't so bad and actually took a LOT shorter time than normal. go figure lol.
SOO.. you can see, i went through lots of phases with it during the week.. lol.
It has taken me a little bit to get used to, but yesterday, was the first day, I was kinda like. okay.. I don't mind this cut. yes it's short, but there are actually lots of ways i can wear it. PLUS I got rid of all my damaged hair as well.
(this was a picture I took a few weeks ago and holy cow.. look at those horrible ends. So dry and damaged!)
AND the best part is, my husband thinks I look sexy and cute and younger and sassy.. so It makes me feel all of those things too. So I am going to own it and LOVE my new hair cut! and stop whining about how I can't have my messy bun anymore. (I am sure ben and everyone else at the retreat was SICK of hearing me whine about it, constantly). No more.. NO MORE! Im just gonna love it!! :) (and actually thank you Ben for talking me into it. I really do think it's a good thing.. truly :)
I want to share a bunch more of the retreat with you.. all of the pretty things we made, all of the fun things we did, people I met.. I will share THAT wednesday.. but today just wanted to say hi.. and I am alive!
OH!! and I want to share one more quick thing with you!! So when we showed up the first night of the retreat.. I was freaking GIDDY.. to see pull in.. right when we arrived two of my very closest friends.. two of my trues.. Margie and Chrissy
Chrissy had made Lorraine (who was hosting the retreat at her house).. a huge chalkboard art piece, to hang in her front room for the retreat! So they were getting there just at the same time we were to deliver the art piece! (here I am BEAMING to see them)..
when Chrissy brought in this HUGE piece of art.. I was DYING.. and just had to share!!
For those of you that are going to be joining her and I, in our Online workshop..
I just wanted to show you a little MORE into what a talented little artist this girl truly is!!! Look at this thing!!
It's beautiful and huge and all done with simple chalk! hand lettered! Seriously this girl is talented. If you aren't joining us in this workshop you NEED too!
BY ThE WAY, Some people have been asking a few questions about the class..
One: YES it is an online workshop.. and TWO: YES all videos plus PDFS for you to download too! Three: YES.. you have a full year to watch the videos, as they are pre-recorded.. so you can go back over and over.. throughout the year and watch them!
