So I am still here on the other side of the world.. in Germany visiting my mom.. (and OH I MISS MY KIDS!!!).. and I don't have any new fun art projects to show you.. so thought it would be fun to RE-POST an old project I did last year.. just a fun behind the Art Video.. called Fly birdie Fly.
It's one of my earlier projects I did, all in fast forward.. but still tons of fun!
Super fast and fun for a nice Spring day!
anyhow.. hope if you haven't seen it.. it inspires you to create something today.. and even if you HAVE seen it.. hope it inspires you to create as well!! It's a good reminder that messups are never really messups!
Hope you are having a fabulous week! Happy wednesday!
Happy Monday friends! IT TRULY is a happy monday! I am heading to the airport to catch my flight for the long 16 hour fight to Sweden.. to teach at the awesome event there! So happy to Petra for bringing me out! I can't wait!!
BUT it is also a happy monday because we are doing a BIG sale in our store on all of my exclusive She Art product from Pink Paislee, Unity Stamp Co, Faber Castell AND DecoArt paints! AND to top it all off, I created a video JUST for you.. creating a She Art girl.. using all the products I just mentioned! So you can see how to use them all together! used the new paints that match our line too! DecoArt Paints
ONE thing you should know.. is that i found out today.. that Pink Paislee has officially SOLD OUT of all of the She Art products from my Winter Release.. so doodle rubons, texture rubons, die-cuts, tissue paper, doily mask, and paper pads! Which means.. WHAT WE HAVE IN THE STORE.. is ALL we have in the store! once it's gone it's gone! seriously.. so sad? I had to hoard about 15 doodle rubons just for myself because I use them on just about EVERYTHING i make! EEK!! (seriously gonna have to talk to them about making more of these.. WE NEED these all year long? lol.. we use them over and over and over! lol) Right? who's with me?
anyhow.. SO TODAY and tomorrow we are having a big sale on those products in the Christy Tomlinson Design Section!
All you have to do is enter the code (all lower caps)
sheartlove
on check out and you will receive 20% off everyting in my lines.
PLUS guess what? we just added new stamps, new sprays, new paper pads, you name it.. we added it. PLUS restock all ranger, crafters workshop.. etc. So the store is PACKED FULL! so take advantage of today's sale!
Okay. enough talk! Here is a Behind the Art video showing you how to use all of these SUPER fun products!
oh and watch for a blog post from me on wednesday! I will be showing you sneak peek no. 4 of the living canvas workshop And anoucning A huge GIVEAWAY we are doing in conjunction with the workshop! You won't want to miss it!! HUGE giveaway!
holy cow yesterday was a LONG day! I got a new video camera because my old one.. just stopped working about a week ago.. and couldn't be fixed.. so got a new one just the exact model and brand as my last one.. but obviously a year newer. WELL i edit everything in Imovie for my blog, my classes, etc.. and apparently this new model isn't compatible with Imovie.. and so all the videos I took and segments I did for the april mixed media kit video.. AND all of my workshop videos to date, Art and I have done for the Living Canvas.. couldn't be edited or read on the mac!! I was freaking out.. lol.. cause I did NOT have time to redo 15 plus hours of video.. I really wanted to cry. Well FINALLY around 10:00 pm last night we were able to convert them using a program we downloaded and wahoo!!! it worked! So yeah.. I was supposed to have this uploaded yesterday.. but alas.. didn't work out that way! Lol
I did a set of three canvases.. that are designed to sit on a shelf or a wall together.. 6x6 in size..
This month's kit includes a paper pad from Studio Calico, Modeling paste (texture magic) from Delta, Paint from DecoArt, Wood Veneer Butterflies from Studio Calico, Kaleidoscope Stencil from DecoArt, Alphabet stickers from Dear Lizzy, and a border punch from American Crafts. (which by the way, i have gotten a few email about people worried that they can't use the punch without buying the big punch it fits into.. but I ASSURE you.. you can.. you will see how in the video.. just use your hands lol)
I wanted a super soft palette for this, so kept in the blue , cream and wood tones. Seriously love how it turned out..
I am really into butterflies lately.. because butterflies represent change.. which is a GOOD thing. (you will hear me talk a lot about them and use them in my Living Canvas Workshop :)
anyhow! turned out super fun! AND YES we do have more of these LISTED in our Shop! check it out..
Before I post the video.. I ALSO wanted to tell you that on MONDAY.. I am doing a BIG sale on all of my She Art Products.. including my line from Pink Paislee, My line from Unity stamps AND i brought in a new exclusive line of paints from DecoARt that match my SHe Art line.. PLUS new Faber Castell Big Brush Pens.. (a NEW BRIGHTS SET!!) that match it too! So monday I will have a fun video showing you how to make a she girl canvas with all of those products.. and have a big 2 day sale on it too! We ordered lots in.. to accommodate the sale! Just a heads up in-case you wanted to order some.. wait until monday.. to save some money :)
Anyhow! I hope you have a SUPER fabulous Day! It's Thursday! :) wahoo!
AHH this is an awesome week.. can I just tell you? Loved spending time in California with the family.. had a WONDERFUL surprise from my dear friend shea.. who saw that we were in Newport on Easter weekend and on the spur of the moment.. invited us (all 8 of us) to her own families easter dinner and celebration! I think our kids doubled what they already had coming! lol but seriously so gracious and SOO just what we needed!! THANK YOU SHEA!! (and Robert and Debbie!)
People kept asking us what we plans we had for California.. and honestly we had NONE. each day we would wake up and say.. okay what sounds fun today? The kids mainly loved playing in the pool and then we spent a day at the beach. But all in all it was just some serious laid back family bonding time!
Anyhow.. today I wanted to share with you a Behind the Art Video I did for Somerset Studios! Its a She ARt girl.. which if you know.. I haven't really ever done a video about those.. mainly because I also have a workshop that teaches them.. but it's a fun little video and maybe if you are on the fence of whether or not you should take She ARt.. this might give you the extra bit of confidence you need to take it! :)
AND speaking of workshops! I need to announce the winners of the 5 people who won access to my newest workshop.. Your Living Canvas! Totally spaced all of that from last week! AND also we have already started the pre-course facebook group page for those of you who have signed up! Remember that you have access to that right now! :) yeah! PLUS you still have the Payment Option plan to pay in two equal payments.. you can read all about it HERE.
ALSO A HUGE Question I KEEP GETTING asked about this course.. IS THERE ART INSTRUCTION AND PROJECTS INCLUDED IN THIS COURSE?
the asnwer is YES!!!! Of course!!! lol..
each week you will not only be taught a fun new art technique that is not taught in any of my other workshops, BUT we will also take what we have learned from that week's exercise and put it into either an art journal, on canvas or another project. EACH week will have it's own separate art techniques and projects. SO LOTS AND LOTS Of art :)
Hey friends! So as promised.. posting today the project I did using the March mixed media kit!
This kit included almost my entire new product line with Pink Paislee.. my She Art line! Everything except the doodle rubons.. but those were include in our main kit this month.. along with the 12x12 papers. if you weren't able to get either of this kits on subs.. We WILL have them in the store NOW along with all of the products that you can purchase separately! So if you need 10 doodle rubons like me.. you can get them!! lol
Anyhow.. SO excited about this line and this kit! OH and guess what? watch the video because we also have an exclusive SHe Art Pen Pack from Faber Castell too! with new shades of colors than you can get from the current Design Memory Craft line! Those are also available in the store.. I have listed the entire She Art Line in it's own Category in the store under my name.. Christy tomlinson Designs (where you can find all of my products including the my stamps as well) So look for that NOW! wahoo!
So here is the project I made using this month's kit and you are going to die at out easy this was.. TRULY how easy..
ALL of these shapes are included in the die-cut bits and pieces pack from my new line! so you can just decopauge.. shade, texture and walla!
Anyhow.. can't wait to show you the video!
So remember.. EVEN If you didn't get the mixed media kit this month.. we have a few left in our store AND we also sell all of the components separately..
Seriously I am in love with our mixed media kit we have at the Scarlet Lime.. it's a monthly subscription kit where each month you are automatically sent a mixed media kit.. and then as part of it.. I do a project using the kit contents and post it here on my blog :) (soon to be the scarlet lime site too).
but I have to admit I LOVE finding products for this kit.. new and different things each month. always fun because then I get to play with them too! lol
So this month's kit was full of new goodies from CHA Winter (that is why there still isn't a picture listed on our scarlet lime website.. just barley got all the products in house last week because they are soo new and then shipped it to my wonderful photographer Junelle Jacobson.. so they will be coming soon (except now I am leaving for NC and won't be back until After the 1st of March lol) .. so maybe not . Seriously I need to figure out a way to work on my website while I am gone. You know when You buy all those fancy programs and install them on your computer and then loose the dang disks.. well I do. now I have a laptop i take with me on my trips.. but it's not doing me much good because I can't do any type of Scarlet Lime website stuff while I am gone because I don't have the programs with the disks to install them! lol.. I should really take better care of that stuff. Anyhow.. on my list of more things to do when I get back!
anyhow.. SO this is the project I made with this month's mixed media kit!
this month's kit included vellum paper from Dear Lizzy's new line.. which made for an awesome background for the sky
it also included these new fun clothepins called "whittles" from american crafts.. and some awesome ruffled tissue paper from Dear Lizzy as well
some fun Glitter from the new "wow" glitter line with American Crafts and also adorable button pack frmo Crate paper..
Plus of course my new She Art stamp: stitched Daffodils!
anyhow.. wanted to create a fun scene with a banner on a clothesline.. this is what I ended up with!
and of course.. I have a VIDEO to go with it.. so show you how it's all done! :)
today I am off to North Carolina to teach my first ever "private" event.. 4 awesome days with 20 ladies.. for two weekends in a row. Going to be amazing. Can NOT WAIT. i have spent the day packing and putting together the little gifts I have for them.. making them extra special.. hope they enjoy it!
I will be posting from the road and showing picture too! so watch for that! enjoy today's video! Happy Wednesday!
soo.. thanks for all the well wishes from my announcement yesterday on the stamp line! so excited.. today has been CRAZY busy.. holy cow. busy getting the video done for today.. had two meetings to go too.. packing, writing blog posts.. the night is still young.. and I don't leave until 6 am tomorrow morning.. so I will be pulling an all nighter baby! lol
oh but today.. I just found out that Memory Box (the event in Puerto Rico) will have some for sale at their store this weekend while I am there.. so that is AWESOME! (they did a special run just for them).. okay.. so want a peek? so I did 3 lines. I did a she art line (girls) a texture line.. and a doodled stamp set. Here are a few of the texture stamps. I had them UNMOUNTED because I know for me.. I love to be able to get them into the canvas.. and when they are wood mounted it makes it a little bit harder.. so this way you can use them without a mount.. OR mount them on acrylic if you want! I designed them for the mixed media artist!
Distressed quilt(this is actually a set of papers I created and then distressed and made them into a stamp.. so fun for texture!)
Poppy Chevron: So of course you KNOW i had to have a chevron.. and this isn't the only one :) love love love it!
SheArt Print Texture(this was a must have for me.. never too many text prints! Specially one with she art phrases on them!)
Of course.. we need a painted punchinella one! OF COURSE!
and now a final peek.. this is SHE was a daughter. I think this would be awesome on canvas.. filled in with watercolor.. or Faber Castell.. yum!
so there is a peek of some of them! I will post more through the week!
now onto today's behind the art! So this month's mixed media kit that we had available in our Scarlet Lime store (right now it's only available by subscription.. and if you wish to join.. email me! We can get you on the waitlist starting in March)
but it included a lot of cool thing.. a stamp carving kit, matt medium, a sample pack of claudine hellmuths paints, emphermera, canvas and kraft tags..
I wanted to have a kit this month that TOTALLY took everyone out of their comfort zone.. taught them a new technique and how to use a new product..
So in this video I show you how to create and carve your own stamps..
using the stamp carving kit.. THEN I show you how to do a fun resist technique using the stamp we make along with matt medium and claudines transparent paints.
AND for those of you that want to try your hand at this.. or if you want to make more than one!! We do have some of the stamp pads available in our store for you to carve with.. they are available HERE
we are also getting more actual KITS in (that come with the pad and the tools) it's so addicting and fun to do. PLUS kids can do it too! Oh and before I forget.. here is download of the doodled stamp that I show above.. so you can use it as a guide if you don't want to doodle your own.
Doodle Flower Stamp PDF
Anyhow.. hope you enjoy the video! I am heading to Puerto Rico early am!! So I better get! I will post more on thursdasy of the stamps!!
so as I mentioned on wednesday.. the canvas tutorial I made wednesday was inspired by this project we did earlier this week at my church for a young women's activity..
I am one of the leaders over the young women in our LDS ward.. and another leader, Amilyn found this adorable tree and snowman idea here at this blog under my polka dot umbrella .
Amilyn liked it so much, she thought it would be a fun activity for our girls (they range in age from 12-18).. it simple enough.. yet seriously super cute. . Here is a picture of the snowman that one of the girls did last night..
Both are made just using 2x4 wood that you can buy at home depot or lowes.. and cut into various sizes and then painted and stacked on top of each other. If you don't have a saw to do it yourself.. home depot and lowes will cut the wood for you. Seriously cool for us NON "wood cutting" skill people!! (me included! Lol)
So as we were sitting there making these cute trees and snowmen.. I started thinking.. I should video tape this and post a tutorial on my blog for it! So I grabbed my camera and started recording us in the process.. I didn't quite have a the supplies i wanted to finish it (things like burlap and berries, etc).. so I brought it home and then video taped the rest in my studio.. showing you how to finish it off!
Here is how it turned out..
I just how simple it was to make! It was just super fun. So hopefully you will enjoy this fun tutorial .
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas this weekend.. I am truly grateful for my Savior and that we get to celebrate his birth and life at this time of year. The gifts and giving and all the crafting are so fun and wouldn't be holidays without it.. but the true reason I celebrate Christmas is about one gift my Father in Heaven has given me.. our brother.. Jesus Christ, who has made it possible for me to live with my Father in Heaven again. So grateful for his Atonement as well. I am so not a perfect person.. not even close. I make mistakes daily in my life and without Him.. would not be able to pick myself up again and start over. To try and be better each day. So grateful for the love that He has for me. People ask me all the time.. how are you always so happy and positive.. and well first i say.. I am NOT always happy or positive.. but for the most part.. I look at all the trials in my life as a huge blessing because it allows me and helps me to grow. I think that knowing I am loved by a brother and a father above.. who want me to grow and learn and become like them.. makes all those hard times easier to handle. You know?
I truly hope you all have a wonderful holiday.. surround by friends and family who mean the most to you! Thank you to you ALL for being so wonderful this year for me! The support from all of you on my blog.. my on-line workshop.. your encouragement in my art.. always being SO supportive .. You have no idea how that has pushed me to leap and go for my dreams.. Seriously.. THANK YOU.
Have a VERY Merry Christmas.. and Happy Holidays..
So excited to share with you today's Behind the Art video.. it's TOTALLY inspired by my friend Amilyne who found this adorable wood stack-able Christmas tree on the blog www.undermypolkadotumbrella.com
I will show you more about it in the video.. and ACTUALLY I am posting another video/how to on friday.. on how to make the wood stack-able ones too!! So come back friday for some more holiday fun! Here is the Wood stack-able christmas tree I made this week
this wood tree.. (which I am going to show you how to make on friday.. here on the blog)
inspired THIS canvas using our December Mixed Media kit !
because the kit included non traditional christmas things like pink, blue, yellow and brown paper palette, butterfly rubons and stamps.. I wanted to create a tree that was very non-traditional but still recognizable as a tree!
I use the traditional saying.. peace on earth.. which I like actually because butterflies often times represent peace..
I love how it turned out and actually might keep it all all winter long! Perfect for winter and reminding me about the meaning of the holidays..
Anyhow.. The video tutorial on this is posted below. My family and I are heading out in an hour or so to drive to salt lake city and then onto Las Vegas to watch the Boise State Bowl Game! We are huge Boise state football fans.. as my husband and I both grew up there and went to college there. This is the last game that Kellen Moore will ever play for BSU as he is a Senior (going pro.. yeah!!).. and my sons all love him. Tickets were actually pretty reasonable and we have been wanting to go to a game all year.. so heck.. why not right before christmas as a family christmas present! lol man we sure fly by the seat of our pants sometimes! It will be fun!
I will be back here like i said.. on friday.. to share with you a video tutorial on how to make the wood stackable christmas tree too.. that is super fun. I want to make more actually for friends. Oh and if you didn't read monday's blog post.. there is a new show airing this spring on TV!! and YOU COULD BE ON IT! read that blog post to find out more! Have a wonderful week! See you friday!
okay.. so I have the funniest story to tell (maybe not so funny but just one of those moments you go.. well it must have been meant to be for some reason).. Monday I posted that I was leaving for Puerto Rico to teach for my friend Yamille at an event she was putting on to over 200 women. Well called me monday afternoon, to make sure everything was in order for the event.. I told her yes but just needed the itinerary for my plane tickets emailed to me as I hadn't seen it yet. WELL when she started to tell me what it was.. and what time I would be flying in.. she said out loud.. "you will be coming in on the 9th of December.. and coming home the 14th!" and I was like.. wait what? Can you repeat that last sentence?? Lol.. isn't the event THIS weekend?... and then dead silence.. and then we both had a "oh crap" moment.. lol.. it seems as though through the mist of many facebook messages back and forth, and the language barrier we both have.. somehow we both totally got confused. She originally wanted me to come out the 9th and 10th but my husband and I are going to Hawaii with some friends and so I told her I would love to, but couldn't do it that weekend. as I already had a trip planned that had been for months... but could the weekend before, which was December 2nd and 3rd. She said that was wonderful and we were good to go.. and starting planning the class and her event. Well she read the email that I could come out the 2nd or 3rd WEEKend in december when I meant the 2nd and 3rd DAYS of december.. and so this whole time we have both thought the event was on different weekends! lol. Oh I felt soo bad. I wanted to cry for her! After a little bit of brainstorming and a few laughs (and maybe a few tears.. lol) . We figured it all out! The event is going on as planned without me next weekend.. with all the other fabulous teachers.. and while I can't come as I will already be gone in Hawaii..I am going to fly out there iN January and do a private event for all of the ladies who are attending the event next weekend.. just for them. Yamille was so positive through the whole thing and that Is what I love about her and our friendship! I felt so bad for her! through all of it she said to me " there must be a reason that God doesn't want you to come to Puerto Rico this weekend.. maybe there would be problems with the plane and so this is Nature protecting you" .. and I thought.. seriously? how freaking sweet is that.. instead of being upset or looking at the negative about this whole situation.. she is looking for the positive in it! I ADORE Yamille.. she is seriously one of the most genuine people I know. And so FUN! Can't WAIT to go in January now and teach at her private store to all those wonderful girls.. gonna have to bring them something special for the wait! lol
anyhow.. so instead of being on a warm sunny beach right now.. I am still home, in cold idaho and now have 4 extra days of "i don't know what to do with myself".. because I have been working so hard all of this past 2 weeks to get every deadline done by monday! lol.. I even stayed home from thanksgiving to get it all done..so now I feel like.. wow.. I can breath? maybe I will take this opportunity to go make some magical christmas art to put in my house. Maybe I will just sleep. lol who knows. ANYHOW.. the whole reason for this post is because I have a VIDEO to share with you today!! lol
so a few months ago I did an article for Somerset Studio's Magazine.. (it was in their september issue I believe).. and in it they asked me feature how to create texture on your art projects with everyday house hold items! I LOVED this challenge.. specially because I use household items in my art all the time! Well they also asked me to create a video for them to post on their website creating one of the projects I did.. so of course.. I said.. yes! But I also created a second video for at the same time.. all about the household items I use and how to use them! So I thought I would share THAT video with you here in my blog! Here are a few peeks of the projects I did for the article.. if you don't get that magazine.. yoU MUST SUBSCRIBE TO IT!! it's amazing! and I think you can still buy past issues on their website.. and they even offer digital downloads of past magazines too.
this article was seriously so fun..
so again.. this isn't the video where I created the actual projects.. (you have to buy the magazine to get the code to actually watch that one).. but this is one I created the same day using all the items I talk about in the video! hope you enjoy it! .. Happy Thursday!
