So many of you are already familiar with CHA, which is the Craft and Hobby Association. Twice a year they have a show where manufactures and designers debut their cool new products for Spring or Fall.
I have been attending CHA for over 8 years and it never gets old! When I first went in 2003, I was working for Chatterbox, a papercrafting manufacturer and it was my job show all of the magazines and editors like Creating Keepsakes and Better Homes and Gardens: Scrapbooks Etc.. our new products! We would set up the booth with all of our new products, and then we had sales people who took orders from stores and I got the awesome job of giving PR kits to people who might feature it in their magazines or websites. Loved my job. After I left Chatterbox.. in 2006, I got a job working for Scrapbook Etc (Better Homes and Gardens) as a contributing Editor.. and then it became my job to attend the shows and find all the new companies that were debuting their products, take pictures, get samples.. to feature in our magazine. A year or so later, in 2007 I started my own company.. Scarlet Lime.. which meant now it was my turn to walk the show floor and actually buyproduct for my online store..
My dear friend Margie, who has her own line, The Girls Paperie, will also be a CHA debuting her new products.
She will be showing stores and magazines all of her wonderful new lines! One big thing at CHA is samples. Store owners and Editors want to see samples of how the products are used. Margie does an awesome job of decorating her booth with the cutest displays.. all made from her products. From hanging birdcages, to kites, layouts, covered books, garlands.. you name it..she and her designers make it. Her booth simply ROCKS. She is one of the most creative people I know! This year she asked if I would create some art projects using her products to feature in her booth. So I took a couple of hours yesterday to crank out these fun and whimsical pieces. Her booth is all about whimsy and playfulness and spring.. so that is reflected in the canvases I created.
These first two pieces were created using her new line called Jubilee! It's fresh and fun and I adore it! The first one is a simple canvas featuring a kit! Kept is simple but playful! I love her sticker books because inside are pages of these fun little word sticker.. much like the ones I print out but oh so much easier because they are done for you!
This second piece I did a little more with it. It's a 6"x12" canvas and I featured birds on a wire. I used her brads as flowers and her fun stickers for the words.
These next two canvass were created using her New Line called Kitch
For this piece I made another really simple canvas. The flowers are a finished product she sells.. So cute!
This last one is my favorite! I just love houses.. they are so fun and whimsical! This was created using the Kitch line and all of it is her product except of course the doodling and a few stamps!
The scallop on the top of the house and the zig zag border on the roof are both premade stickers in her sticker book. Seriously. Cute.
Those cute little flower are brads.. um.. can I have more please?
I created 3 other canvass too.. for her Vintage Whimsy line.. but haven't had time to photograph them yet! A total of 7 pieces in all.. in just under 4 hours. Not Bad! lol just don't look to closely at my doodling.. haha.
I wanted to also thank you all for the HUGE response to my new E-course, The She Art Workshop! I am blown away by those of you who have already signed up.. thank you thank you thank you!
I have had a few questions come my way about this e-course, so i thought I would put the answers here (as well as on the Workshop sign up page).. in-case you are still on the fence about signing up becuase you have these same questions or concerns!
SO here we go..
Supplies: Do I need any type of special or fancy supplies for this class? I am not an artist and don't want to spend a lot of money buying new products.
Answer: No! The great thing about this class is I use mostly everyday crafting supplies. Paper, Acrylic paint, Rubons and a doodling pen. Really that's it! Plus of course Canvases and other found objects to paint on. But in this class, I will take you through some of the cool surfaces I have found at thrift stores, that have cost me next to nothing.. and I can recycle and paint over to create art on! Of course I will also introduce you to some fun NEW products that are yes, things you might not have on hand, but only to show you some cool new stuff out there. They are not necessary for creating a finished piece of art! For those of you who have already signed up .. you will be receiving via email a supply list for this class this week!
Class Availability: Are there certain times I have to be in class and how long will the class be available?
Answer: The great thing about this on-line workshop is that you will have access to the classroom ANYTIME of day or night. It will be available for a total of 6 weeks (the course is 3 weeks and you will have an additional 3 weeks after it ends). You will have plenty of time to watch all of the video instructions, download the pattern templates and other fun stuff associated with the class. You can go in and watch the videos over and over.. as many times as you want.. during the 6 week period.
Knowledge base: Do I have to know how to do mixed media to do this class?
Answer: NO! If you have watched either of my two video tutorials on canvas art (here and here). You can see that I honestly used basic papercrafting supplies and techniques that anyone can learn! I have a very UN-crafty sister. She really wanted to make one of the She Art Canvas for her daughter for Christmas. She doesn't paint, she doesn't scrapbook, she doesn't sew, she doesn't really do anything crafty.
Here is a sample of what she created.. SHE created it. I guided her through the process.. but this was all her. If SHE can do it.. YOU Can do it!
I sure hope you will join me on this fun adventure! Remember registration is going on now and class starts February 28th!! I am sending out this week, a supply list for all of you who have already signed up, so you can start gathering your supplies. Most of them I am sure you will already have on hand. For those of you that are starting from scratch, my papercrafting store: Scarlet Lime.. carries awesome kits.. that include paper, rubons, stickers and other goodies for creating mixed media. Our new website and new February kits will debut on february 1st! I also have some other fun mixed media kits in the works.. that include a few of my favorite things (rubons and other fun things I always love to use). Those will be available the first week in February on our BRAND NEW website! Super excited about it!
If you want to know more about the She Art Workshop.. you can find all of information here including how to sign up!
If you have any other questions about this e-course, feel free to email me!
Thanks for letting me share and thanks again for your support in this class!
Happy Wednesday!

It's week three of the Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner Hop and I have to say I am getting more and more addicted to this thing! It really is a go anywhere, take anywhere, scan ANYTHING device! Even big things.. you simply scan in sections and it has a program built into the card that will stitch it together for you! Seriously love it!
A few weeks ago, I was at a thrift store and someone had just brought in a sealed box that was marked "wedding" on it. It looked like it hadn't been opened in years. The gal behind the counter carefully opened the box and inside were these beautiful vintage lace gowns.. probably at least 50 to 60 years old! I was dying! I asked her how much for each one (there were four dresses and 2 tops in all). She said "how about $4.00 for each one".. Ithought she was crazy but I said.. I will take all of them! lol.
I instantly knew who I wanted to send them too. Who could take them and make the old vintage dresses into something totally wearable for the modern girl. But before I shipped them off, I used my Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner to scan in the details of the dresses. The cuffs, the collars, the buttons, the pleats.. everytihng I wanted to remember.
As I was trying to decide what to create with scans.. I thought.. what about a dress? I could create a girl on canvas and create her dress out of these ACTUAL pieces. So that is what I did!
I used the gathered blue skirt waist as the skirt on the girl, I used the pleated lace top as her shirt, and then I used bits of the lace trim as her waistband and one as her collar. It turned out wonderfully!
It reads:
"she was a modern girl with a vintage soul"
I had a ton of fun with this week's challenge! oh who am I kidding.. I do every week!

Wowzers! A lot going on today on the blog! We have a tutorial, the debut of "The She Art Workshop" and a giveaway!
First things first! Last week I had so much fun creating this Mixed Media Tutorial for you all! And guess what? It's ALL video.. yipee! So you get to see me in action.. from start to finish creating the canvas.. how fun!
Disclaimer: please don't mind that during this video I am: in my garage AND my pj's AND that I sometimes sing my words AND that I continue to say Modge Podge even though I KNOW it's Mod Podge! lol.. old habits die hard I guess! Whew! glad to get that off my chest! Now onto the canvas we are doing to be making today!
It's called "Love is in the Air" and it's a 10"x10" mixed media canvas using the January Frugal Fab kit from my website Scarlet Lime!
Before I show you the video..I have to give a HUGE shout out to my (uh hum.. single) baby brother, Van Jr (or VJ as we like to call him). I was felling pretty cool that I had managed to edit a video and put some music to the start of the video, but then he came over and looked at it and said he would tweak it just a bit for me. Um.. tweak it? HE MADE IT A GAZILLION TIMES BETTER! All of the music you hear on the video is his! On his guitar! He sat there right in my office and mixed it all! He is awesome. He not only put music to all the segments but he fixed the sound so it doesn't sound like I am in my garage! lol Amazing. THANK YOU VJ!!!! I LOVE YOU!! (and if you are single and living in the Shelley, Idaho area..he's an awesome catch! :)).
The video ended up being a little bit too long, so I had to create it in two parts. Here is Part 1 of the video and then the link for the second one is below!
