I really wanted to try something new on my scrapbook pages that has texture and layers and is still fairly simple to achieve without a lot of mess.
Iris folding does all that! It is layered and uses lots of color. There is lots of texture from the patterns on the paper and more texture and lots of depth because of the layers. I loved that I could use so many of the gorgeous papers from the June Scarlet Lime kit, too!
I just followed the directions here to get started in iris folding and I used this teddy bear template. There are lots of templates online that are super fun! I want to try some butterflies and flowers sometime but there are so many great choices!
Since this was my first attempt at iris folding, I followed the directions exactly. I did enlarge the pattern a little and then just followed the numbers on the pattern! It takes lots of tape - just so you know!
The thicker paper ended up really bulky when it was finished but it made lots of depth. I think I might not fold the heavier paper next time - just use unfolded strips and try inking or painting the edges to add even more texture without so much bulk. And I really want to try this with tissue paper or maybe newsprint, too! There are so many possibilities!!!
This would be fabulous for scrapbook pages and cards or for art journals and mixed media! What would you do with iris folding? We would love to see! You can add your creations to the Scarlet Lime Share Gallery or leave a link on this post and we will check them out!!!
