who else feels like laundry NEVER stops? I mean seriously folks... I did 4 loads of laundry yesterday and haven't even began to touch the mounds of clothes I gathered up from the four corners of our house. Laundry is ONE of a few (okay many) things I really don't like to do. I wish all of our clothes magically cleaned themselves!
Luckily my children are at the age, where they have started to do their own. Braden, Allie and Parker, all can load, wash and dry their own clothes and ALL of my kids, including Noah (he only folds the hand towels), can fold and put away their own clothes. We keep trying to get a better system down and it doesn't seem to work.
For the past few years, basically everyone just brings their laundry up and we wash everything in 2 days (okay sometimes more like 7 days). Then after it's all clean, we dump all the clean clothes on the living room floor and everyone helps sort clothes into 7 different laundry baskets. (one for each person and of course Ben and I share). Then each person takes their laundry basket to their room and folds it (or doesn't) and puts it away. (that would be me who doesn't fold their clothes.. bad habit, but it works for me!). Braden and Allie help put away Ethan and Noah's clothes (since they share a room with them) so we are all covered.
But then the kids all started to complain that they didn't want to be sorting each others clothes etc. I said fine, that we would just do it how my mom did it. Each person had their own laundry day and they were responsible for bringing their clothes to the laundry room and if they were old enough (8 and older), they had to wash, dry and then carry their clothes back to their room. If we missed our assigned day, we just had to wait until the next week (keep in mind we had 13 kids in our house, so it was the only sane way to do laundry). So I suggested it to my kids. They all loved the idea, thinking that they would only have to do "their own" laundry and not someone else's. BUT so far it hasn't worked out so good. Most of the boys share a room downstairs and their clothes all get mixed up together in each others laundry baskets. So then when it comes their day, they are still washing each others clothes. PLUS we have just been gone so much this summer, it seems we all need clean clothes on the same day (and can't wait for our "assigned" day).
Anyhow, I am HOPING once we get into our new house and everyone has a place and school starts etc, that our new system will work better. That way everyone will just be washing, drying and folding their own clothes and the "massive sorting" will be gone from the process. I am amazed at my kids and how much they can learn. Preston and Allie are both 7 right now (Allie turns 8 in September) and they both can fold and put their own clothes away. Allie can wash her own clothes too and I am betting Preston could if I taught him. Heck he knows how to load, unload and wash the dishes. I think washing clothes is a lot easier than that!
Well sorry to go off on that subject, just feeling so frustrated with the laundry that we have been doing for the last 2 days.. and still more today! AH!
I wanted to give a HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to Donna Murdock. She is a dear friend that I have met through this blog. She always posts and always sends such nice e-mails. Well a few weeks ago, she happened to be in town visiting her daughter and she brought me some HOMEMADE jams! I am a HUGE sucker for homemade jams. Love them, it's one of my favorite things ever! We have devoured them over the last couple of weeks and they are nearly gone. BUT THANK you Donna! YOU ROCK!
Oh! I was going to tell you a couple of things too! If you haven't tried the Everyday Minerals makeup yet, through Nancy .. YOU MUST! So wonderful. I recently bought a couple of other things from her and AM IN LOVE with them. My new favorite things from that line are the Concealers.
There are two of them I purchased and really really love. One is called Sunlight and it's for under eye areas, getting rid of the circles and dark blueish spots. LOVE IT! (you only need just a tiny bit and apply it with round or flat brush). The second one, I was really really impressed by, was called "pick me up pink". It gives "dull" skin a bright, youthful and porcelain look to it! You apply your foundation over it, but OH MY GOODNESS! I LOVE IT! I loved it even without the foundation, but if you want a really clean, even coverage and just a really bright, youthful look.. GET THIS! it works. These concealers are BOTH in powder form and just go on so light! You don't even know you are wearing them!
I also got a couple of more eye shadows.Alot actually (Nancy sent me some to try) and there were two am just in love with! They have a lot of shimmer to them, but go on so smooth and just "radiant". They are sunset voyage, and "comfy". I can't find Comfy on their website, but Nancy sent it to me, and LOVE that color. Sunset goes on so pretty and almost a sheer peachy/nude/bronze?? . But it's just so pretty! The "comfy" is a shimmering dark golden brown and is SO beautiful on. E-mail Nancy about that one! Anyhow.. have to get those four things to add to your collections. I can ONLY image how pretty those two eye shadows look with blue eyes (they compliment my hazel eyes, but with blue eyes, I bet they would just POP!).
Well better go! I am working HARD on getting this new surprise ready and I have to admit it has been pretty nerve racking. I have NEVER been so nervous about anything in my scrapbooking career! SERIOUSLY, I haven't been able to sleep at night and will be SO glad when it's finally done! LOL.. So excited.. but so nervous.. (see getting sick to my stomach again)...
oh! and the "wings of love" class will be ready to ship in a few weeks (still waiting on some products from Canada), but I will be posting that class this week! So look for it! If you sent me an e-mail about wanting to be on the waiting list.. I will send you an e-mail before i post here, with all the details of how to get it! Thanks for everyone's continued support with my classes.. you all rock. Seriously.
