So excited to share with you today's Behind the Art video.. it's TOTALLY inspired by my friend Amilyne who found this adorable wood stack-able Christmas tree on the blog www.undermypolkadotumbrella.com
I will show you more about it in the video.. and ACTUALLY I am posting another video/how to on friday.. on how to make the wood stack-able ones too!! So come back friday for some more holiday fun! Here is the Wood stack-able christmas tree I made this week
this wood tree.. (which I am going to show you how to make on friday.. here on the blog)
inspired THIS canvas using our December Mixed Media kit !
because the kit included non traditional christmas things like pink, blue, yellow and brown paper palette, butterfly rubons and stamps.. I wanted to create a tree that was very non-traditional but still recognizable as a tree!
I use the traditional saying.. peace on earth.. which I like actually because butterflies often times represent peace..
I love how it turned out and actually might keep it all all winter long! Perfect for winter and reminding me about the meaning of the holidays..
Anyhow.. The video tutorial on this is posted below. My family and I are heading out in an hour or so to drive to salt lake city and then onto Las Vegas to watch the Boise State Bowl Game! We are huge Boise state football fans.. as my husband and I both grew up there and went to college there. This is the last game that Kellen Moore will ever play for BSU as he is a Senior (going pro.. yeah!!).. and my sons all love him. Tickets were actually pretty reasonable and we have been wanting to go to a game all year.. so heck.. why not right before christmas as a family christmas present! lol man we sure fly by the seat of our pants sometimes! It will be fun!
I will be back here like i said.. on friday.. to share with you a video tutorial on how to make the wood stackable christmas tree too.. that is super fun. I want to make more actually for friends. Oh and if you didn't read monday's blog post.. there is a new show airing this spring on TV!! and YOU COULD BE ON IT! read that blog post to find out more!
Have a wonderful week! See you friday!
Happy Wednesday..
Love your videos and love watching you create.

This tutorial was nice. I like that you went outside the box for a holiday canvas. Inspiring.

Wow! This is gorgeous! This is my first time visiting and I must say...you are a messy artist! LOL! I kept thinking oh no, she put the canvas down in the paint! But I can see that it didn't matter because of the type of art it is. Just beautiful! I'll be watching more for sure! TFS!

Will try a version of this tonight. I love your free reign with the textures. So liberating.

Hi Christy, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I made a copy of your canvas, following your tutorial step-by-step with very little deviation, except substituting materials with what I had on hand. Ended up with a pretty decent canvas that I can proudly hang on my wall! Thanks!!! Love you so much for your generous and kind spirit. Blessings to you and your family in this Christmas season!!
I posted my canvas in my blog here:

Thank you Christy, you inspired me all the year around, with your videos, chat, on-line courses (and your creams , too)....a great crafting year.
I wish you a very Happy Christmas.

Thanks to Michelle at Posh Scraps, I have now found a new blog to follow! Love this canvas, Christy. I think I'm going to attempt a Valentine's themed one using a heart instead of the tree after Christmas.

This is so awesome! You are such an inspiration. I took your 3 hearts workshop, and it was by far the best art journal class I have ever taken. I signed up for your colour class yesterday and I am eagerly waiting for my login information. I can't wait!

LOVE this!! I'm so excited, received my first kit and it's sitting under the Christmas tree waiting to be opened! I'm going to totally copy your project since this will be my very first mixed media project and I have no idea what I'm doing lol! One question for you, I don't have those Faber Castill pens, what other markers are similar? I have some copics, and a bunch of old Marvy LePlume's, but that's about it.

I am so glad you are back!!!! The canvas is absolutely beautiful!! I need to email you to put me on the list for the next kit too!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Joyeux Noël à vous Christy !!!!!

Love it Christy! Even though I don't have the December kit (shipping prices are ridiculous, right) you inspired me to re-create the canvas. I might give it to my grandmother.
Re: Youtube
You should be able to upload longer videos. I had the same problem and then one day youtube asked me if I wanted to upload larger files. So just watch out for that button. It requires a view verifications but it's worth it.

I love this project! I have been concentrating on decorating our home, and I seriously need some creative time with paints, canvas, and rubons. I agree with Holly - so many of us want a CD of his music. He is so talented, just like his sister! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

OH so pretty!
I hope I can tackle this one at some point during my holidays!!
Thanks for sharing your genius :)

Really darling. this tree reminds me of a Christmas card I designed years ago. I'd forgotten about it, and it was one of my favorites. Your style is much more free spirited than mine, and I love to watch you create. Still loving that music...tell your brother we're all waiting for his CD to come out!
