Hello friends! Happy Monday!

First off.. Today's is my hubby's birthday.. so have to give a HUGE shout out to him!! love him more than words! Happy Birthday benny! MWAH!

And Second! I am SO excited about my new Boot Series Online Workshop!

Of course it's SO much more than boots.. its girls and drawing faces, and doing clothes, and learning about watercoloring, sketching, using chalk pastels, markers and more! How to do simple easy faces for watercolor/illustration.. and SO MUCH More!

it's been almost an YEAR exactly.. that I have hosted my OWN/SOlo workshop! Last April I did my Behind the Art Workshop.. but since then.. all my classes last fall were classes, I hosted/collaborated with other artist! So I am excited because this class is 3 full weeks of just ME lol.. loads of videos! Loads of PDF's.. lots of inspiration and TONS of creative learning going on.

All through the month of November and December I found myself carrying my watercolor supplies EVERYwhere I went. I mean everywhere. I would sketch and paint and doodle everything I saw. One day I happened to come across this adorable picture of a girl I follow on Instagram..

 

 and I knew immediately I wanted to sketch and paint my version of her. So I got out my pencil, my watercolor paper and started to sketch.. and this is what came of that fun inspirational picture.

The next day my friend Margie posted a selfie of herself on Instagram.. and again,  was so inspired by the picture, I sketched and painted her. Over the course of the next week I came across several pictures of girls in boots (tis was the season) and just couldn't help but sketch and paint each one that inspired me!

 After posting a series of them on Instagram.. I started calling them my 'boot series" girls. So it was natural as winter came.. then valentines I painted and sketched girls in different types of boots. Some I sketched just from my head but most of them were sketched off real life pictures of  friends, or followers on instagram. Pictures I saw on Pinterest and pictures sent to me by friends and family. 

It has become such a fun passion for me and a way for me to re-connect to my roots! Going back to my first She Art Workshop when I painted lots of girls in boots using acrylics and paper and mixed media...   BUT this time using new mediums..  more simple challenging medium.. watercolors! Over the last year I have just fell in love with watercolors and while I know I am NOT an expert at using them. I do I have a very distinct style in how I use them. I know it's very different than most other artists, but it works for me and hey.. I enjoy the process! right?  

WHen I was thinking of the classes I wanted to do for this year.. I knew immediately that I wanted THIS to be one of my classes! I had so many of you comment and share with me how much joy these boot series girls had brought you, and I thought how fun would it be to share with you my process and style, so you can start to paint your own too!

So.. today I am excited to share with you my first ONLINE workshop for Spring..

My New Boot Series Workshop!

 

This workshop is a 3 week online workshop on sketching, creating and painting my boot series girls using watercolors! This class starts Tuesday, April 1st and once it starts you will have access to this workshop for 2 full years! Want to know more? here we go!

 

 

In week one, we will go over my inspiration process. I will share with you where I find inspiration and how to sketch them! Boots in particular can be hard and tricky to sketch, because you have to make sure you capture the depth of of the foot in the drawing. I will share with you the right and wrong way to this process, so you can see both!

 

I will show you how to sketch with a simply mechanical pencil, but also how to sketch using a stabilo which gives a cool shading affect when wet! The results are very different but both are very fun!

 I will share with you my process for sketching, boots and clothing of ALL kinds! I will go over ideas for digging into your own closest to find inspiration for sketching as well! We will sketch several girls from lots of different season including spring, summer, winter, fall and even special holidays! It's going to be so much fun!

 

 

Week two we will start the week by going over  the basics of watercolors and brushes.  I will share with you my techniques on what are my favorite watercolor mediums to use (as there are several options out there) and what works best for the techniques I do!

 

 We will go over watercolor brushes, how different brushes & watercolors give you different looks and different results. THEN we will paint our sketches using the knowledge we have learned! I  will go in depth on how I paint, shade, and highlight my girls and make the sketches start to come to life!

 

 

 

Week three I will share with you the final details on how I make my watercolors come to life! I will share with you my techniques on doodling using several different types of pen. Different pens to create different affects including using both black and white pens!  I will also show you a extra fun twist by adding texture to watercolors with the use of stamps, Rubons and patterns. I will show you how to add the detail that is what makes it truly YOU and whimsical and fun.

 

 I will share with you my favorite pens for doodling and my favorite pens for adding additional shading and even highlighting.

 

I will also share you with some quick ideas for taking your watercolor supplies on the go! It will be a SUPER fun week!

New Ecourse... close to my heart....

I want to share with you a new e-course I will be apart of for 2014 with my dear friend Jeanne Oliver.. and 8 other wonderful ladies as well.

Studying Under the Masters.. becoming an Apprentice.

I know for me, I am constantly learning and growing as an artist and to do that, it not only requires practice, but it also most definitely requires learning from other artists! I am an APPRENTICE to other wonderful artist whom I learn from!  I think all too often we are too shy to or scared to take workshops from other artists, because after taking the workshop, we don't know what is our style and what is there's. We don't know how to incorporate their style into our own.. to make it OUR own. This workshop is all about this and helping you find your own style, by studying under artist who already do have their own style and are willing to share so that you can learn.

 

  

There is a lost art of studying the works of others to find your own style. All of the "masters" were first apprentices and were given the freedom to find their creative voice by literally sitting next to those who inspired them. The apprentice sat beside them, listening to their descriptions of process, picking up their paintbrush and mixing their paint, creating a series of strokes that created something that told a story, and stirred their creative spirit.

 And, with practice, the apprentice became a master in their own right – mixing together the old and the new.

Somewhere, over the course of time (and certainly with current social media) we have lost sight of openly emulating those who inspire us most.  Have you ever taken an online course, gone to a retreat, purchased an art technique book and were taught an artist's techniques and mediums?  Have you ever been worried about what is your style and what is "their" style?  Have you ever been afraid to create art that was inspired by another artist?  This is going to be a course that will help you discover YOUR style and have the freedom to do so, by learning from other artists.

 

Jeanne wanted to offer a course that takes some of the  most amazing artists in history, and show you how we ALL can learn from them. Even us as teachers!... . And that openly learning from them is a good thing!

 Each of us nine artists, will become the "apprentice" to an amazing artist from history and current day.  We will share how we became a modern-day apprentice to those who came before us and those who work beside us now. Through discussion and technique videos, each artist will share their week with a “master” as if they are sitting next to them. You’ll learn who their “master” artist studied under, who influenced their work and what techniques and mediums they used.

I am excited for this, because the "master" I have chosen is actually someone who is a modern day artist.. and I am excited to be able to actually learn and talk with her about her work, where she studied, who she studied under. Her process, her techniques and her love for art.

 

An integral part of the artistic process was to “copy” the master artist until the apprentice could confidently integrate pieces of it into their own creative process. In this course, you will watch as these artists "copy" the works of another artist. You will then learn as they create art in their own style incorporating the techniques and/or medium of their chosen artist

Our hope is that you will leave this course with freedom in your creativity.

 Freedom to pull from everything around you that inspires you and how to incorporate it into your art.

 The confidence to realize that nothing is new under the sun and how to build upon others that have come before you.

The courage to share who inspires your creative works.

And today I thought it would be fun to show you all the sneak peeks of the projects for the workshop.. AND do some giveaways for the workshop as well!

Ms. Jeanne Oliver.. oh we just love you! LOVE this beautiful woodland girl painted on simple birch tree pieces! She shows you how to do an ornament size and a large wall size!

Vintage Girl, Margie Romney- Aslett will be showing us how to make these CUTE vintage houses out of paper and fabric! SOOOO easy to do with beautiful results! oh these would make such CUTE GIFTS!

 

Ms. Maggie Holmes is bringing us these ADORABLE handmade snow-globes using household canning jars and a few simple craft supplies! I have to tell you, I made these last year and I WISH I had seen her video first! She shows you a SUPER cute way to make them, but with a cool twist! I am SOO re-doing mine this year to incorporate her fun techniques! Even if you have made these before, your gonna want to redo yours as well! lol SO FUN!

 

and last but not least.. we have our ever creative.. Junelle Jacobsen! Gettings Artsy with Junelle....

you know there is one word that always comes to mind when I think of Junelle Jacobsen. Brilliant. It's always the first word that I find that just TRULY describes her creative capabilities! The second would be generous and kind (okay that is two.. but they just go hand in hand).

I know many of you don't know her personally, but many of you have taken her online workshops and not just in life, but in her workshops she is both Brilliant and generous as well!

ONe thing I love about Junelle's class is that she covers a wide spectrum of techniques. SHe does sketching, watercolors, art journaling, mixed media on canvas, mixed media projects in general and even project using fabric, felt, stitching and more.

I have always loved all of those aspects of creating, but for the last year have focused mostly on creating just on canvas using mixed media techniques. Well as you know for my girl a day challenge, I found myself using a lot of pastels, watercolors and sketching as it was a simple way to get a girl done each day lol.

I started realizing how much i MISSED using those types of mediums!

Then Last week was my turn to add my "goodness" to Junelle's latest workshop, The ARt of Holiday Goodness. As with most classes I host from other artist, I always join in the end of the last week and give my take on what I also learned from the workshop. I take the class right along with each of you and watch the videos just as you do, and then from the wonderful things that are taught create my own "goodness" as Junelle would call it

After watching all the videos and projects (there are over 20!!!),

It  made me want to dig into my watercolors, fabrics, felts.. even more than before!!

 

That girl is just a inspiration all around. YOu can't watch a video of hers and NOT just want to grab whatever it is she is teaching you and jump right in.

 She truly is brilliant in the way she teaches because she builds that little fire under you to create, to spread your wings, to try new things. She is so generous with her knowledge too. Seriously i am so blessed that 3 years ago she took my first She Art Workshop and started posting her take on my class in our Yahoo group. I don't know otherwise if I would have ever gotten to know this beautiful soul. SHe has now become one of my closest friends which through the last year, as been one of my strongest supports of love and advice.

Love tender mercies like that.

So the reason for this post? lol.. I know I always talk a lot. Sorry.. but truly I just wanted to share some of the goodness that I created for Junelle's "art of goodness" workshop. If you aren't taking this workshop.. you can still join. And the good news is that now, once you join, you have access to all three weeks at all once! Since the workshop is now in self study mode. (I hate waiting for each week! lol I am too impatient!)

so here are just a few of the things I created..

of course I had fun playing around with watercolors and sketching. Then I also added in some fun new techniques I have been using lately too. I like to call Hybrid watercolors. Using different mediums to get the watercolor look but with more non traditional supplies

I went a little crazy with my postcard watercolor sketches.. don't mind me. lol

Told ya I went a little crazy. I think I am now addicted to these postcards from Strathmore. They come in a pack of like 15. Anyhow they come with the postcard already designed on the back, so once you are finished and seal off your work, you can just pop it into the mail! Seriously?? how cute! I keep s"Borrowing" more sets of them out of our Scarlet Lime Store lol.. (poor benny.. I better order more so he doesn't notice how many i have really taken :) EEK!). If you haven't ever played on them.. you should try them.. and yes I believe right now we do still have them in stock haha. Might not be the case by the end of the week, if I keep getting my hands on them. jk. By the way if you don't like the idea of just sending a postcard.. you can also create watercolor cards too! And yes we DO sell those in the store as well, and come with envelopes.

anyhow.. LOVED getting back into sketching and watercolors! Then of course I had to go for her wood block projects she taught.. getting all messy with paints, papers, rubons, and stuff.  Here is the project I created .. did my own take on a christmas tree set..

those ended up being super fun and now I am addicted to making all sorts of wood block projects as well (wonder if ben will notice I am borrowing all of his wood blocks out of the store too? ;)

(love these soup blocks that Junelle made.. she puts recipes on the back.. seriously? how cute?? )

I think my favorite part of the class is that she then shows you how to bundle everything up you have made and gift it as sweet adorable gifts for the holidays! That girl.. always thinking of others.

so anyhow.. this post has ended up being WAY longer than I expected. I just wanted to come on and share some of what I have been working on the last week or so.. hahah. Yea I guess you wouldn't expect less than a mouth-full right? :)

Introducing my 2013 Twelve Artsy Ornaments of Christmas Workshop!

 

It's that time of year again to announce the details for this years...

 

First off.. what is the 12 Artsy Ornaments of Christmas Workshop?

This is a collaborative workshop I started 3 years ago in 2011 and this year will be our third year hosting it! 

12 Artist come together to bring to you 12 Holiday Project.. for decorating your homes, trees for the holidays, and wonderful gifts you can give as well!  Because we ask 12 artist.. all from different areas of the creative field, you always get a GREAT mix of artistry.. mixed media, fiber, papercrafting, paints and more! In the end you walk away with a beautiful mix of everything you need to create a festive fun Holiday!

This year I have again invited 11AMAZING artist with in this 5 day workshop! Each day, for five days, you will get 3 new project/ornaments/homedecor/giftgiving.. by 3 different artist and teachers! PLUS a bonus project this year that you won't want to miss!

This workshop is presented all in video, so you can watch along as these artsy girls show you step by step how to create adorable holiday projects. You will also have PDF"s and Supply Lists you can download to keep as well.

If you took my She Art 3 course earlier this year, I was lucky enough to interview Danielle during that course and she shared some very wonderful insights into staying true to you.. as well as sharing her own art in the course. After that interview I just KNEW i wanted to host an online class with her, because I KNEW the world needed to learn from this beautiful soul! is a 3 week online course taught by the talented Danielle Daniel! I will also be joining her in week 3 of the workshop sharing some of what I have learned from her workshop as well!

Danielle has a special way of telling her stories through both writing and art that I just have fallen in LOVE with!

The Art of Spring with Junelle Jacobson!

sweet friends! First off thanks for patience with all this stuff. Who knew fibro would throw me such a curve ball this last week. I have had bad days before but nothing like this. It has truly put in bed.. unable to work since last thursday night. Today had a few hours I felt good enough to work, but then it went right back into the thick of it again. I was hoping this would ease up as I have never experienced this kind of pain before, but so far it hasn't. I am starting to think this might be my new normal. WHICH.. I realize while seriously unthinkable.. I know I will somehow push through! That being said, I have some knew about the She Art Workshop. if you have signed up.. please check your email. The Art of Spring is a 2 week ONLINE workshop featuring Junelle Jacobson! I will also be participating in this workshop, in the same matter as I have in her past workshops! For those of you that LOVE Junelle.. and have taken her other workshops (over 1500 people so far!!) She is TRULY a magical soul!

  For those of you that are familiar with my workshops, you know last year I offered two unique workshops. Pumpkins & Spice and Winter Whimsy! BOth were 2 week workshops that focused on creating art specific for those seasons! Both of those classes were successful and so many people joined us! WELL I decided.. I just couldn't leave spring out.. and then I thought.. who does spring better than Junelle? REALLY? her cute little lambs, bunnies, flower, all things spring! SO the idea of combing her first class for 2013 with the Spring class was perfect! The best of BOTH worlds!

Week one will feature Blooms & Bulbs, Little ones like ducklings, lamps and baby moos. Spring Meadows , Church windows and SO much more!

Junelle as you know is a very passionate and spiritual person.. so she also brings to this class a sense of love, exploring and peace into ones own life.

Finding the joy in spring and new beginnings. This week will include BOTH sketching and getting messy and creating! I will also be sharing with you some of my favorite spring characters as well!

 

 

In week two we move onto Bunnies,

Smalls (spring favorites on little canvases),

Potting tables, Watercolor Veggies, Gardens, Piglets and Chicks!

Of course I will also have projects in this week as well!  And again it includes sketching, watercolor and getting messy with paints! Junelle's classes are always a FULL range of techniques and projects!

you know you guys are awesome right? I just was reading through all the comments you gals wrote on tuesday and my ears welled up again.. but this time GOOD tears.. happy tears... not frustrated ones. Just apprieciate you all so much! THANK YOU!!!

so it's all worked out.. WHEW!  well except for a few stragglers.. but I figure after a week of waiting and not getting their log-ins they will email and then we can take care of it that way.. lol

all is well.. all is well.

SO holy cow.. busy week.. my LAST workshop for 2012.. STARTS next Tuesday!! it's probably one of my favorite "fun" workshops because it includes 11 other GUEST teachers!! wahoo!!

so I am busy getting ready for that one... uploading videos, pictures.. info about all the teachers.. etc.. truly can't wait for you guys to enter the classroom! Your gonna DIE when you see the projects! I think I showed you all a sneak peek a couple of weeks ago? I can't remember now.. all the days are running into one..

BUT if you haven't seen them.. I thought it would be fun to show them again..

Basically if you haven't heard.. This last workshop is my 12 Artsy Ornaments Workshop.

We did one last year too and it was a HUGE hit! People loved learning from 12 different teachers!!

Basically it's a 4 day workshop (which is open for an entire year).. and each day for 5 days, you get 3 new christmas projects from one of the 12 teachers!!  It's called the Artsy Ornament workshop.. BUT it doesn't just include ornaments.. it includes home decor, gift ideas and more! Each teacher gets to choose her own idea.. THE great thing about the teachers is they all have different art styles and backgrounds! Some are messy, colorful and bright! Others are vintage chic.. and others classic and old school. Some just mixed media fun.. But all different and ALL totally inspiring!
This workshop starts NEXT TuESDAY.. the 4th. (so if you have signed up or are signing up. that is the day you get your password and log-in and welcome info).

So.. anyhow.. that is my week..

this monday..  on the drive home from boise and the funeral.. I needed something to do to keep my mind off things.. and I started writing and journaling.. all the ideas I had for workshops next year.. and I think I have all my workshops pretty much SET for the next year and I AM SOOO excited!

The first two will be in Janaury.. end of Janaury..

the first one, will be a fun Basic Course. So many people find me and take my current workshops.. but they are new to mixed media and don't know much about it. And while in my classes I show how to shade, do backgrounds etc.. I don't get into depth about the products and why i use them, what the difference is.. how to get same looks using different products.. or how to get different looks using the same product!  Why I use gesso sometimes and why I dont.. what type of Glue is good to use when.. what types of paints are good for what.

SO.. I am doing a Basic Course.. I haven't decided what I am going to call it.. Maybe Art 101..

but it will include all of that info. Simple technique videos showing you just about everything when it comes to backgrounds, layering, shading, using gesso's, paints,  mod podge, deco pauge or Matte Medium.. what the differnce is from canvas to canvas, wood to wood, etc. It's truly gonna have all the basics! We won't miss a thing! So if you are new to mixed media.. OR even an old seasoned pro.. it will just be a great course that will be one you will have you can always go back to for those techniques.  AND the good news is that class will be open for 2 years!! so once you sign up you will have 2 years access!

That is going to just be a mini class or a 2 weeks class.. so the cost will be low :)

I also am going to be starting a 12 month workshop.. all of you are familar with the one little word craze.. well is will be similar to that. it will be taking our selves.. and who we are.. and putting them into canvas and art journals. .. that will start in Janaury. Each month.. we will create a new project that is meaningful and VERy dear to my heart. This workshop will be a very very personal one for me. So basicall you sign up for the workshop, and either you can pay in full for the workshop.. or your account can be billed each month for it.. for 12 months.

Starts Janaury and goes until December. More details on both of those workshops will come in mid december..

so that will be my first  two workshop.. then I plan to do a spring workshop, a SHE art 3 workshop.. a couple of collabrative workshops, an Artology workshop (one where if you really want to take your art to the next level and TRULY learn about art values, and poperties and symbols and paints and products that will make a HUGe difference in what you are creating).. AND probaby my most favorite one.. and LONg awaited one.. 

a bussiness e-course.. on basically how I have started my art business, all the in's and outs.. of how I did, what worked for me, what didn't.. the rules and goals I gave myself, ways to advertise, where to start.. where to look for growth.. the standards I alway abide by.. the motto's and truths that I adhere to that I KNOW is why I have been successfull.. (i believe one of the greastest ways to grow is to give).. 

that one I think will be either in May or next September.. it will be probably my BIGGEST workshop yet. it won't be the for faint of heart.. thats for sure.

So I am excited! Lots going on in 2013!!!

but for now.. I am just going to get this 2012 Artsy Ornamaments workshop UP and ready!! wahoo!

oh when it rains it pours.. seriously..

hey lovely friends..

okay.. so I am just goin to come right out and say it.. I want to scream, cry.. wake up from a bad dream.. and more today.. I swear when it rains it pours.

first off.. thank you for all the well wishes about my Brother In law.  He found out a week and half ago that he had 2 weeks to live and passed away the day before thanksgiving.. of cancer. So SO very sad. We were in Boise attending his funeral yesterday. His kids are all young (in their 20's) and I just remember what it felt like 2 years ago to loose my dad at such a young age. I just wanted to hug my niece and nephews and tell them all of the things they will experience over the next year.. and that it is OKAY.. to cry whenever they want.. to be upset whenever they want.. to stay in bed when they want to.. as time will heal all and gradually you will start to see tiny miracles and blessing from it all. This past year has been an especially hard one for me and I can say that I actually have been SO grateful for my dad's passing.. as I know if he was here I probably would not have confided in his as much... but this year I found myself talking with him SO SO many times.. in prayer and other ways.. asking for help and guidance.. and I KNOW that was a tender mercy from my Father IN Heaven.

So we are home.. and last week we had a huge black friday sale.. and this morning, I started getting emails from all the people who purchased the workshops while I was gone. That they hadn't received their links. Then after doing some digging.. I found out that paypal had a major glitch through black friday and over 200 transactions.. from people purchasing the workshops on sale.. DID NOT go through on my end. SO on their end.. it shows as unclaimed.. and now paypal is denying all of those payments and those 200 people have to resign back up again! oh what a headache!  SO if that is you.. YES you still need to resign up even if paypal has taken it from your credit card OR bank account. It still will be refuned and will not go through. AND they are not giving me the emails of those 200 people who signed up.. originally.. so I have to send out a mass email to everyone on my newsletter list.. announcing it and asking every one who purchased a "sale" workshop items.. to check their paypal account and if they see it as unclaimed.. they have to resign back up. Seriously what a pain? My poor customers are going to hate me after last week's sale! Not only are their payments being denied and they have to do it again.. but they have been waiting all week for the log-in details to the workshop and now they have to wait some more!

someday I just HATE paypal.. makes me want to cry. seriously.

that is not what I needed today.. coming home to a messy house.. (we left the kids home for the funeral).. got home at midnight last night and my three youngest were still up playing xbox?? what they heck??? it was a school night! Dang kids? talk about being grounded for the next week..

I have a million and one emails to answer back.. lol.. and a video I have to shoot for the winter whimsy workshop, a video to shoot for the november Mixed media kit..

I just didn't have the patience or the time for this huge paypal mess.

so I think right now I will make myself a cup of hot milk.. and cry for a minute.. and then put my big girl panties on and go on with my day.. lol

alright. Enough Complaing! I am done. I should look for the positive in this.. :) so grateful for family.. for the knowledge of eternal families. For the Gospel. Grateful for my customers who support me in my sales.. even when there are glitches.. AND SO grateful I have a business that allows me to stay home. Problems and all. Now.. I am still not so grateful for kids who destroy a house while I am gone, stay up late on a school night thinking we won't be home until later.. BUT i am grateful for my kids.. so I guess that counts. lol

anyhow.. so should we talk about something more positive?

How about art?  Lately I have been in the "christmas" winter creating mood and go to create a lot of new art for my winter whimsy workshop.. I wanted to show you some of the pieces I have been working on..

This girl is totally inspired by a globe I saw at the store the other day.. it was a snowmen with a globe inside his belly! I thought how fun it would be to do a SHe art girl with a globe inside her dress!

 

 

This little guy is a Reindeer.. one of my newest obsessions..

 

 

and of course a penguin. I have been painting penguins for over 18 years.. hes fun too!

 

So anyhow.. thanks for letting me share! That workshop was SOO fun to do! I am excited to make even more.. thinking I will do a bunch of reindeer ornaments for my tree this year!
