Sketches in September

I have loved seeing how our other team members have interpreted the Anthropologie ad sketches this month and now its my turn.

I really love the colors of the first sketch and I love the simple design so I wanted to use those in my own design.

I used the 7 gypsies tape and other embellishments  from the September "Indian Summer" kit from Scarlet Lime to do this project. I let the tape mimic the random placement of the drawer elements in the photo background and used a blue sticker in the corner of the photo to echo the look in the sketch. Then I used buttons for bullet points and rubons and stickers for the journaling. I loved those yellow shoes in the sketch and the yellow felt key accent in the kit was perfect to pull just a touch of yellow into my page. 

The second sketch was fun, too. I really liked the notebook paper accent so I definitely had to use that on my own.

I chose to use the September frugal kit for my second sketch. It all worked together perfectly for the idea I had in mind for this page and the flower and paper ribbon accents were the perfect contrast to my Mother's Day gift from my boys.

I had to use both photos of my boys because they both tell so much of the story with the one photo of them both picking glue off their fingers and the other of one boy pointing to the other and saying, "It was his idea," and the other saying, "You wanted to do it, too!" So I just used them both - close together - as the large photo in the sketch. By extending the patterned paper down the side I tried to bring emphasis to the photo of their artwork and then I added the text to the top just like in the sketch.

Gettin' Sketchy With It!

Long time no see my fellow Scarlet Lime friends! How I have missed thee. After the summer off and a LONG move from Oregon to Texas, I am ready to be back in the game and have had a blast creating with the new September "Indian Summer" Scarlet Lime Kit AND creating projects based off of this month's sketches!

Here I was inspired by the notebook paper in the Anthropologie ad and the layering as well. I loved the lightly stamped looking images in the ad and used some packing bubble wrap from one of my many boxes as a stamp to help mimic that look.

Clearly I was inspired by the cardboard in the Anthropologie ad. And Lord knows I have cardboard in spades right now. So once again, USING WHAT I HAVE on hand to create a layout. I followed the same basic design and was really intrigued by the use of tape in the ad and the tape that was included in this months kit was PERFECT to help replicate that look. I also dug into my kiddos school supplies and found some really cute glitter pens that I used to recreate the bullet points that were found in the ad:

Christy put together 2 amazing and incredible kits this month. And if you are like me you have PLENTY of left over doodads and goodies. So I decided to create a cute little gift set to give as a thank you to one of my new neighbors, and with a few simple supplies you can do the same.

 

Here is what you will need: a bracelet  and ring blank (you can purchase at your local craft store for just a few dollars!), the Basic Grey felt flower sticker from this month's kit, any left over large size flower (I happened to have one from a Scarlet Lime kit from last year that was handy!) a button and BasicGrey Brad from this month's kit as well. A hot glue gun or your favorite heavy duty liquid adhesive will be necessary too.

Then it just becomes a simple 5 minute task of layering and glueing the embellishments to the jewelry blanks. To make the bracelet, I simply glued the paper flower to the bracelet and layered the BasicGrey Felt flower over the top, adding just a little bit of extra adhesive to help ensure that it was stay on. 60 seconds later, SUPER cute bracelet:

 

The button ring is JUST as easy to make! I loved the look of the yellow zebra stripish looking  button. A simple dot of glue onto the ring blank and there you have a 10 second ring, but the Basic Grey brads in this month's kit caught my eye. So I wanted to add just a little something extra. Just snip off the brad with a pair of scissors and then glue the brad top to the button. You will end up with this little gem that looks like you spent a small fortune in a boutique somewhere, but SHHHHHHH!! no one needs to know our little secret:

 

So I hope I gave you some great tips and ideas for using those little kit leftovers to create a cute something for yourself or a friend.

Savitri's September Sketches...

 
Hi ya! It's Savitri here and today I want to share with you my take on the two fun Anthropologie inspired sketches! 

This is my first based on this sketch:

I tried to stick to the main layout of the sketch, photo on left, faux stitching on top and just fun random things all around to add more to the layout. Since the photo has a lot of colors I tried to incorporate a lot of different colors to the page too. I love that the Frugal Fab Kit, while inexpensive, gives one a lot of yummy goodies to play with. So much fun!!

Then we have the second sketch...

And for this layout I stuck true to the sketch. It's a very clean and simple layout but because I chose a pattern paper, from the September Main Kit, that's a bit busy with a gorgeous floral image the layout looks busier. This layout is more my style. I love clean and simple ones even though now and then I love to experiment with more.

Melanie's Take on September Sketches

Using ads from Anthologie this month was a new way for me to interpret a sketch. It was really fun! I'm used to the black and white outlines type of sketch.

When using a sketch, usually I'll study the sketch and pretty much replicate it. But with using the ads, I just had the basic picture in my head and went from there.

With sketch number one, I made an inset for a 4x6 frame. Just a little something to keep in my bedroom where DH and I can see it often. The frame is just from Target $1 bin. I wrapped the frame with 7gypsies gaffter tape from the September main kit. I used the orange and purple papers for the inset to coordinate with the greens in the stickers and embellishments.

For sketch number 2, I created this layout of my daughter who just turned 12 this week. I typed up her wish list, which I thought was a great way to use the journaling part of the ad. The "I Love This" sticker from the main kit worked well for the title of my page.

Hello all! This is Christy today!  I wanted to come tell you about a fun thing I amd doing this fall!

So many of you that are in the papercrafting industry.. or have been.. remember way back when.. when I taught at the events.. CKU. Creating Keepsakes University.I use to travel and teach for Chatterbox.. the company I worked for at the time.. teaching mini albums and other papercafting classes. Well earlier this year, they approached me about coming to a CKU Reunion event to teach and help celebrate 10 years of CKU's!!! I was EXTREMELY excited.. however my first thought.. was.. well I don't scrapbook though? and so I was even MORE thrilled to find out they wanted me to teach my mixed media art! I decided to teach this fun 8x8, deep edge canvas class.. the house class. Because for those who are just starting into mixed media class.. this is a GREAT class to get your feet wet with.

 
 

 You will get to use products from some awesome sponsors.. like Faber Castell, Ranger, Unity Stamps, DecoArt... it's gonna be a SUPER fun class!

The event is this October.. 27-29th.. in warm and sunny San Diego (and my hubby gets to come with me).. 

Oh! The other cool thing about this event is that they are incorporating all kinds of artsy stuff! Like Jewelry and fabric classes too. I have seen some of the stuff and wow.. so cool!  So maybe I will get to see you there!  In Warm Sunny California (okay.. so it' might not be too warm or too sunny.. but I can guarantee you it will be warmer than Idaho! lol). The thing I am most excited for is seeing all of my old papercrafting friends! the students AND the other teachers coming. We sure has some really great times back in the day.. some of the best people I know!   So check it out.. hopefully I will see you there..

CKU 10 Year ANniversary Reunion Event..

Well it's friday and my husband is out of town for the rest of the weekend (he left yesterday for a hiking trip). So it's just me and the kiddos and my baby brother who is going to keep my company (He doesn't know it yet.. but I thought it would be a fun way to spend the weekend.. lol). Tonight is the Boise State Football game.. and I don't miss those.. so I know what I will be doing. Maybe tomorrow I will find some "will power" to clean this dang office. Seriously folks. If you saw it. Yikes. seriously Yikes.

September Sketch Month

Hello all.

WOW.  It's September.  We have all been busy with 'back to school', winding down after summer and preparing for a lovely fall season ahead of us.

What fall activities are you looking forward to? And how will you spend your Labor Day holiday?

In September we are going to shake things up a bit with assignments, challenges, etc.  Think 'sketches'.  I have been collecting Anthropologie ads since 2007 and always wanted to use them as sketches.
