SHE ART Workshop! - alternate canvas Ideas!!

Hi! It's Lori and I have to tell you I am sooo excited to take Christy's She Art class! 
 I adore those sweet girls and I can't wait to learn how she creates them!

CLASS starts in 2 days!! That means only 2 days left to REGISTER!!

 

I think I will want to make lots and lots of pretty girls - but I have a dilemma. I don't have many places I can display artwork in my home - and I don't want to make art pieces and then hide them away in a box or on a shelf somewhere - I want to see them often and be reminded to create and I want to share some and give some as gifts but they might not fit with other's decorating or home style either.

I've done a lot of thinking the past few days and I think I have a good solution!  
I bought some plain journals and I am going to use the covers as a canvas for some of my She Art!

 

I bought both of these at Barnes and Noble - but Christy actually carries Dick Blick Sketch Journals in her Scarlet Lime Shop! Or you can find them just about anywhere!  The black journal is 8 1/2 x 11 with blank  pages inside. I am going to use it for my new inspiration journal and I can look at it as often as I want, but not have to put it on a wall. I can also paint my She Art Girls inside of the pages as well if I wanted too!

The purple journal is 5x7 with lined pages inside. It could be used as a daily journal or an inspiration journal. I think this size would be great for decorating with mixed media art and given as a gift - its personal and meaningful but doesn't have to be displayed.

I know Christy has said she uses bases other than canvas for some of her art and I know she will talk about some of those in the class, but I wanted to share this idea with you to start you thinking of ways you can make your art completely personal and that it can be so much more than a painting on the wall!

Sweets for your Sweets and a Challenge!

 
Hi all, Mimi here!  Valentine's Day...the sweetest day of  the year is here and I wanted to share a cute and super simple way to show someone you care! My boys have been blessed to have some absolutely amazing teachers and this year is no exception. Both the boys and I like to give something a little special to their teachers along with a card. This year I bought some Hershey Milk Chocolate bars and dressed them up. I used yummy products from both the February Main Kit and February Frugal Fab Kit. I simply wrapped some pattern paper around each bar and embellished the top of it with goodies from the kits.

I know their teachers will love finding this little treat in their Valentine's bags.

This would also be a great little treat attached to a package or given to nieces, nephews, grandchildren or little neighbor kids.

Behind the scenes: February layout with May Flaum

Hooray for Friday! May Flaum here, and I've been playing with the February Scarlet Lime kit - and having one heck of a good time. Today I want to walk through the first layout I made with this kit and share how I like to work with my kits. I hope you enjoy!

First I sort through photos and find some I want to play with (with the kit).  Then I figure out any cropping, and placement of photos on the background paper. These are 4x4 Hipstamatic prints (taken on iPhone) - and I love the pinks in this kit for them!!

 

I decided I liked the journaling paper with the photos, but I didn't need the whole length for my writing so I placed it under the pictures as you see above. Once onto the paper though, I felt like I needed more contrast (but didn't want to add paper) so it was misty time!!

 

I used both Adirondack color wash + perfect pearls mist (in perfect pearl) so I could get the color I wanted plus the glimmer! Next up: title and journaling...

At this point, the layout could be done. I'd attached a strip of paper, my title, it's lightly embellished... aw but that's just not my style!!! I want to play some more.  

 

First up: sewing. Just a little navy blue (for contrast) around the photos. But then, well I had so much stitching that that I sewed a few lines up in the top left corner to use with the banner stickers from the kit.

 

I didn't want the red strip, so I cut them apart and individually adhered to my banner. I also got my scissors out and hand-cut a few more banner pieces to make it work.

 

Once that was done, I still felt like it needed a bit of something... and so I dotted a few buttons around my photos!

 

The banner didn't have quite as much contrast as I wanted so I outlined the shapes with pink smooch ink.

 

Overall? I had such a blast with making this layout, and I can't wait to play some more!
