Melanie Jarocki: March 2012 Kit Projects

Hello! Happy April 8th! And for those of you celebrating Easter today:

 I used the March Frugal FAB kit to make this card.

And, because April and 8th sounded so good together, that was the day DH and I decided to get married 17 years ago. LOL Here is the card I made for him, again with the March Frugal FAB kit and some rub ons from the main kit:

It's always fun to celebrate holidays and special events in our lives, but don't forget to celebrate the everyday things as well. This layout is about how our family decided to go for a walk to get donuts one morning for breakfast. It had been very rainy for several weeks, and we finally had a clear (albeit cold) morning to get outside.

 I used the March Main kit, along with some of Christy's new SheArt rub ons and paper pieces.

Melanie Jarocki: LOVE the Frugal FAB kit :)

February's Frugal FAB kit is LOADED with goodies! Here are two projects that I put together with the kit.

I was really excited to see the Pink Paislee Nantucket embellishments in the kit this month. Perfect for scrapping our Hawaii photos! this bling flower caught my attention first and I used it for this adorable picture of my girls, taken the first day we were in Maui.

I added the flower to the yellow pattern paper first and the cut around the bling. This helps the flower pop a little more off the page.

The leaves are just something I hand-cut out of the green pattern paper. Then I folded them and inked the creases to create "veins".

Next, I knew I had to make a baby card with this cute American Crafts fabric trim safety pins! And there pink in the kit . . .

I used Jenni Bowlin dauber paint for the American Crafts "sweet" stamp. LOVE the way it turned out! And the felt embellishment was an easy way to really add some dimension to the card. The black letters were a little too bold for me, so I toned them down with a white gel pen.

A favorite project--Melanie Jarocki

Earlier in the month, I posted things that I love. This is a project that I  made that I love.

I used the Scarlet Lime December Frugal FAB to create this album, ready for photos and stories that I want to tell.

The front and back covers have pockets. I added in the Pink Paislee acrylic cards between the pages.

Using some of the patterned papers, I made insert pages for extra photo space. Adding the color rub-ons to the side of the Glitz pages gives them a little more life and color.

I also added in the Pink Paislee rub-on packaging insert (with the yellow border) for an extra page.

The tag strips on the bottom of the patterned papers were a perfect way to finish off some of the extra pages. And the house rub-ons fit in the framed areas almost too well.

I added another pocket to this Glitz page.

I tried to be sure there was space for photos and lots of writing. This book is more for me and the special stories I want to tell in 2012.

I actually had a different title in mind for the book, but then I liked how the letters spelling out my name looked . . . so I went with that :)

Things I LOVE--Melanie Jarocki

This month the Scarlet Lime design team is talking about the things we love--anything and everything!

Of course, I love my family, they are the main focus of my life.

A few weekends ago, my husband and I had a little getaway. I loved that.

I love the time we spend each night reading by the fire as a family. Little moments that mean much more.

There are also more fun, frivolous things that I love, such as: dark chocolate, hot cocoa, Tillamook Mudslide Ice Cream . . . oh, I guess those all fall under chocolate :)

I also love going for walks.

The colors yellow and red.

Sunshine.

Just a few things that I love.

Melanie Jarocki: Style Projects

Linear, journaling, embellishment clusters, borders, and banners--that is how I defined my style in my post earlier this month. I really enjoyed working with the January kits, just letting go and doing my thing :)

This first layout is with the Main Kit. I loved the colorful papers! I decided on a primary color theme since the layout was focusing on my 3-year-old. Lots of lines, borders, and a banner.

I added some Jenni Bowlin paint to the chipboard hearts, along with some stickles to make them sparkle. I sprinkled some Perfect Pearls mist and Mister Huey white on the background as well.

For my next layout with the Main kit, I went girly!  The big floral print on the Pink Paislee paper has such a feminine feel to it. Again, I added a border . . . this time with the yellow dot paper and some stitching. Lots of lines on this page, too :)

I had a larger cluster of embellishments by the title, combining the Crate paper sticker, Pink Paislee die cut, and the thickers in the Frugal Fab kit.

One more project with the main kit . . . a card. I love making cards!  First up, I used some grey cardstock to contrast with the pink and yellow colors. I stitched around the edges of the card and then stitched the pink lace on top of the paper strips. Then, I layered the Crate Paper stickers and added a Kaiser rub-on for a finishing touch. Just to add a bit more balance, I put the little Hello sticker up in the corner.

With the Frugal FAB kit, I continued making some cards. Yellow is my favorite color so this ornament by Pink Paislee definitely had to be on one of my projects! I thought it looked really nice against the green background. I added some of the Kaiser Craft rub ons for a subtle detail.
The sentiment is from SRM stickers.

This last card if by far my favorite! I just adore butterflies :) I hand-cut these ones out of the American Crafts patterned papers. The perforated tag lines on the bottom of the AC papers are perfect to add for accents on projects. I used another SRM sentiment sticker and then thought the Crate Paper stickers from the Main kit would add a fun touch to rhyme kisses with wishes :)

Style: Melanie Jarocki

We are talking style this month . . . and to echo Dena's comment in her post on the 2nd, I love that the Scarlet Lime team is full of a variety of scrapbooking style.

I definitely fall into the linear style type . . . I like things to be lined up and orderly.

I am also big on journaling. Love to tell the story in my handwriting on the page.

I don't usually use a ton of embellishments but like to cluster a few somewhere on the page.

Usually you will find some sort of border--stitching, pen lines, etc.--on my pages.

And I love banners. Hoping that trend stays around for awhile because it makes me happy. :)

Favorite Traditions Project--Melanie Jarocki

At the beginning of the month, I mentioned I was putting together a mini album
with my Thankful blog posts for this month. This mini is made with the Scarlet
Lime November Frugal FAB kit (plus kraft cardstock, some stitching, and
binding). Here is how things are going:

Front cover. The album is 4x6. I cut each patterned paper, plus three sheets of kraft cardstock, into 3 pieces. Two pieces were 8x6, the last piece was 4x12. I folded each piece in half to make 4x6 pages.

Process: print out journaling from blog posts and photos every 3-4 days. Cut and put into album. Some days have a couple of photos and journaling strips. Some days have one photo, or no photo, and journaling blocks. I stitched around all of the pages to give them extra stability. So far, I've been able to keep up to date on this. I kept it fairly simple, otherwise I would not finish it. Have you made a Thankful album this month? Please leave a link--I'd love to see your work. Have a great day :)

Melanie Jarocki: Favorite Holiday Traditions

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. We always spend it with family and there is so much good food to eat :) At the dinner table it is tradition to go around and talk about our blessings and what we are thankful for. This year to celebrate blessings the whole month, I am posting on my personal blog each day something that I am thankful for.

I've prepped my November Frugal FAB kit for a Thankful mini album. I'll will put the photos and thoughts from each day's blog post in the album. Here are the beginnings:

Melanie Jarocki: Inspiration Projects

Hello :) Last week, I listed some things that inspire me in my crafting. With the Fall season taking over, there are beautiful colors right outside my front door. The mum on my porch and maple in our yard inspired me to create a layout documenting my feelings about fall. I used the October Frugal FAB kit for this layout.

Often, the products in a kit will inspire me to make a particular project--especially words or phrases. I thought the sunglasses on the sticker sheet were cool . . . and the sticker sheet had the word "cool" on it. I was able to take letters from the other phrases ("A toast to you") and make "You are so cool" label for the card.
